Dr. Phu Thai, MD

My experience tonight was what medical nightmares are made of. Dr. Thai treated me with zero respect and even less compassion. His comments about my tattoos, and his indications that I caused my illness by tattoos was absurd. Oh, offering pain meds to get me to leave, even though my ask was for no pain meds, but only to find what was causing the pain. The suggestion by me that the blistered rash on my arm could be shingles was immediately disregarded without a second look. Even though the rash was followed by a list of symptoms that align with those of Shingles. When I asked him to do more to figure out why I have a blister rash, fever, headache, ear ache (with no sign of ear infection) red face, red skin, burning/tingling skin, a BP of 158/94 (when I typically run low - and I’m on a medication that makes my BP even lower) and full body pain, he walked out of the room and sent the nurse to discharge me. I can’t even see how I was allowed to leave with my BP that high, while having typically lower than normal BP. I was as shocked. I’ve never encountered such lack of care. All his information was conflicting. He told me my fever would still be there after 48 hours of antibiotics because it takes 72 hours, and when my blood test showed no infection, he told me it was because I was on antibiotics for 48 hours and I needed to continue them. He truly seemed clueless. The two nurses were kind, caring, compassionate and wonderful. He wouldn’t even look at us when he spoke and the nurses encouraged us to report him or “nothing will ever change.” I’m heading home worse than when I arrived. I plan to share this with everyone I can. This isn’t the type of care, or lack there of, that anyone deserves. Do better.

Dr. Thai was my GP for 10+ years until being promoted to head the UCC. Without him, I would not be here today to praise him. He is THE BEST!
