Dr. Philip Yuan, MD

Dr Yuan is such a awesome spine surgeon. He took care of my back complaint of sciatica and weakness. He was so patient and very good at explaining the plan we were going to do to fix my problem with L2&3 of my lower back. This after having L4&5 done by another doctor. He made sure to connect the L2-4 even though he didn't do L3&4 and made sure to recheck them too. He also made sure that I was good before allowing the hospital to discharge me. I was so glad he did because it made recuperating at home easier and experienced no problems. His staff were great to in coordinating everything for the surgery.After care is great too as he explains everything to me. Even giving me physical therapy to help me get my strength back. I did choose Southland Physical Therapy in Long Beach because my therapist, Sami had received great feedback for Dr Yuan from his other clients who had surgery with Dr Yuan.I highly recommend Dr Yuan for any back issues.

Dr Yuan made a bold statement that he could guarantee 95% improvements to the pain in my left leg that left me barely able to walk. I was in excruciating pain everyday. It was my L4 and L5 plus he said I had 2 pinched nerves. He preformed surgery and cut in the front and the back It was an intense surgery and he and his colleague may of done everything right however, he forgot a very vital thing…to CLEAN UP ALL THE BONE SPURS and whatever else was left in me. Through getting a second opinion why I still hurt so bad another Dr did a Milogram her and a Radiologist easily saw that I needed surgery AGAIN to clean it all up. There were bone spurs pressing on nerves. Before the second opinion, I went back to Dr Yuan to tell him I was still in so much pain. He elevated his voice and said “WE DID EVERYTHING RIGHT!” And left the room. A very UNNECESSARY 2nd surgery. A simple procedure of cleaning up would of prevented a 2nd surgery. I am still very upset about this. Recommend him? NOOOO

Dr. Yuan performed a laminectomy discectomy procedure for a herniated disc between Lumbar 4 and 5 that was causing excruciating pain in my right gluteus, lower right calf and tingling in my right foot via innervation of the sciatic nerve, specifically the L4 L5 nerve root on 11 30 22. I was in pain for 2 months prior so much that I needed a walker to get around the house. Having been very active before including swimming, bike riding, walking and lifting weights I was devastated emotionally when the Sciatica first appeared, then became worse causing me to became increasingly depressed at the days wore on. Dr. Yuan promised with 95% confidence that I would be free of all sciatic pain post operatively that I thought was a bold statement but fortunately later learned to be true. It was though a 50 pound weight had been lifted off my shoulders when 100% of the pain miraculously disappeared post op as promised. If you have troubles with your spine this is the Dr. for you!.

He was abrupt and very dismissive of my concerns.

He is the best Surgeon I could have had the fortune to have. I can't say enough of the excellent care and surgery I have received from Dr. Yuan. His first instinct is to methodically try different therapies to alleviate pain and discomfort, only after other treatments have not worked, he will offer surgery as the next option. He is a phenomenal surgeon and I trust him and would recommend anyone in pain to see him.

Three years ago I had lumbar fusion. I was in so much pain it never entered my mind I could ever feel well without pain again. He had an mri ordered and upon reading it he told me I needed surgery. Within a week the surgery was preformed. Before I go any further I must tell you I am a golfer and we will do whatever it takes to stay in the game. I followed all doctors orders and within 18 months I was back into the game. I am a none believer in injection and pills and to this day I do not take any medication and my golf game has improved. I waited for three years to write this review to make sure I would still be felling the same and I'm feeling good. I have played golf in South Africa since my surgery, my age 83.

After suffering for several years from severe stenosis and a central disc extrusion, my primary doctor referred me to Dr. Yuan. Dr. Yuan operated on me August 7, 2018. I've been pain free since the surgery. I'm back to daily walks of between 3 to 5 miles, bike riding, and swimming. I've also returned to ballroom and swing dancing. Dr. Yuan was with me from the beginning and through my entire recovery. I have and will continue to recommend friends and family to Dr. Yuan. He is a very caring and competent surgeon.

Dr. Yuan is an excellent surgeon. He operated on me 6 mo. ago. I had a triple fusion of my lumbar spine. The surgery surpassed my expectations. He will honestly guide you and will not operate unless he is confident he can help.

He did my wife's spinal surgery five years ago, and it was a 100% success. He also treated me for sciatica that did not require surgery. Outstanding in all respects.

As a Health Care Administrator,Dr. Yuan failed to meet my expectations as a patient.He lacks empathy, understanding of the pathology of spinal health in the sense of evaluating a patient through protocol/procedural test such as mobility and sensitivity test. According to a seminar conducted in Mexico, 2014 on The Pathology of Spinal Health, a surgeon should not base there evaluation on images alone.Prevalent symptoms should not be down played by age butby lifestyle change/severity. whichhelacked

I really like Dr. Yuan and he's doing my surgery. Complaint...I've waited as long as an hour, which is really irritating

Dr. Yuan did surgery on Lumbar 5 slipped vertebrae. The surgery went great, I healed quickly and I would do surgery again with Dr. Yuan. Which I am as a cyst is now in the same area as the last surgery.... He has done everything in the last year to keep me comfortable. Now we both agree surgery is the next thing and our last resort! He always takes the right amount of time. He has a great staff and they always try to do everything to make the patient comfortable!

I've never had a physician more rushed than Dr. Yuan. This was an initial consultation on spine issues. I brought MRI, CT, X-rays, and various reports. He spent the last few minutes of our very brief appointment dictating his notes in the exam room. Nope.
