Saw Dr. Utter in July and his nurse practitioner, Sarah, in August. She was to set up appointment with another doctor for nerve tests. I had to call back two times for her to make the referral, then she made it with the wrong doctor. Had the tests in September and was told it would take 2 days to read the results and submit to Dr. Utter. Sarah, Dr. Utter's nurse practitioner, said she would call me as soon as the results were in. Two and a half weeks later, after leaving 3 messages for her to call me................crickets. No return call. Looking for another neurosurgeon. If they have issues with the easy stuff, how can I trust them with surgical procedures?

Professional and Knowlegeable
He does have a little longer waiting times but he spends time with you, will explain what is going on, is caring. I am so thankful to have access to a doctor like Dr. Utter! I am doing so well post my surgery. I feel as though I have my pre-injury life back.

Professional and Highly Skilled
Dr. Utter has an impeccable bedside manner. He is very knowledgeable and explains disease processes very well. He is also conservative in his treatment and will only offer surgery after other options have been exhausted! I would highly recommend anyone to see him. He received his training at the Mayo Clinic and The Cleveland Clinic. Exceptional surgeon.

On my first visit I found that Dr Utter was nice enough, but to the point, which can be seen as uncaring. He ordered a procedure for 1 of my problems that others had ignored, and it helped my lower back pain; just not completely. I was unable to bring a disc of 1 of my MRIs to that visit, so he said he would look at it on my next visit, but scheduled with 1 of his PAs. I rescheduled to meet with him. I feel that if I'm making a decision about surgery, I want to see the surgeon and be able to ask them questions. I waited for 90 min in the room. He never apologized & just said I must've been mixed up with someone else. Then discussing what would be needed, he seemed unsure and made me feel very uneasy. I didn't understand what he wanted to do, and what he did explain was fragmented and hard to understand. After, I realized he never said what the procedure is, so I called to ask & they had a receptionist call back about the wrong procedure & have never answered about the surgery.

After going with my sister today, I would never recommend him. He was curt, rude, uncaring and bordering on disrespectful and didn’t read her records or want to spend time. We will go to Dallas, as we should have done from the beginning.

I have had the good fortune to be a patient of Dr. Utter's through 2 different back surgeries. He has always been professional, thorough & undaunted by difficult cases. When I. broke my back 1 1/2 days before Christmas, he went to great lengths to perform the surgery as soon as possible, including Christmas Day. He inspires total confidence in his ability as a compassionate & informed surgeon.
