Dr. Philip Schmitt, DO

Do NOT go to this doctor. I am 17 months post-op from right birmingham hip replacement. I had pain at about 6 week point after surgery and he simply sent me back for a second 6 weeks of physical therapy. After going back to him several times, my pt told me I should ask him about a pain shot as a diagnostic tool. He bluntly refused. He continued to tell me that my problem was only related to the gluteus medius tendon and nothing else. I finally got a 2nd opinion in Oct. 2023 and surgeon, without me asking said he wanted to give me a pain relief shot as a diagnostic tool. It helped and he said I needed an iliopsoas relief procedure to start with. You've probably heard of scar tissue, however apparently irregular bone growth called ossification can occur after a surgery like this. The 2nd opinion surgeon removed a piece of bone that was impeding my iliopsoas. Then, upon hearing of this Dr. Schmitt just released me from his care and did nothing with my gluteus medius tendon repair. I had another surgeon finally do that 8 weeks ago and am still struggling to recover. Do yourself a huge favor, go somewhere else!

Dr. Schmitt recently preformed surgery on my right hip, I am happy to report I am doing great just couple of weeks out. The doctor and his staff were courteous, knowledgeable, helpful during all interactions. And judging by the quick progress I am making post surgery, he is a top notch surgeon.

From start to finish, and after care for my surgery I had an amazing experience. This was my first surgery and I am glad this is how it went. Thank you to all that where involved.

This office is a well-run, professional operation. A patient usually has to wait no more than 5 minutes in the lobby before being brought in to a room. And once you're in a room, no more than 2 minutes goes by before an important comes to see you. And my 2 knee replacements work perfectly! I came to TY this doctor/office on the recommendation of a friend, who also had a double knee replacement and loved it.

It went very well; perfect actually. There was no waiting. The doctor got right to the point. I had a question after I had left and called the office. Within minutes the doctor called me back and explained my question.
