Dr K’s rating is incorrect. He is a top notch Dr
Dr Kahrilas’ rating is skewed because 3 of the 1 star ratings are being counted twice. Read through the reviews and you can easily see the error. I have been a patient of Dr K’s for 30 years. I thought I had something stuck in my throat. What I was feeling was actually esophageal tissue that had been badly burned due to GERD caused by a large hiatal hernia. Fortunately, medication and diet have helped keep the reflux from doing further damage. When I was first prescribed omeprazole, it was not available over the counter. I was afraid to take the medicine for fear it would get stuck in my throat. I walked into Dr K’s office without an appointment and explained my fear. Dr K was in the office, but eating lunch. He asked the nurse to bring me into his office and while eating his lunch, he explained that taking the pill with a big gulp of water would help me easily swallow the pill. It worked! He was and still is a genuinely kind man. After 30 years I would not consider seeing anyone else

Dr. Kahrilas is very thorough and takes time to explain treatment plan and any side effects. He shows compassion and has good bedside manners. Best traits in life is a sense of humor and he has one. My condition has been a bit complicated and he is not leaving any stone unturned. His nurse Sabrina is top notch. I highly recommend Dr. Kahrilas;-) He's always been on time for all my appointments.

When I went to see Dr. Kahrilas for GERD issues, he was very patient, and very kind. He took the time to listen to all my problems and concerns, and worked with me to come up with a logical, scientific test plan to figure out what was going on with me, and to treat it.

I went to Dr. Kahrilas after many months of stomach pain, distension, and an abnormal amount of burping. I have GERD and instead of taking the time to consider anything else, he laughed at my burping complaint, implied that it was all in my head, and prescribed pills for reflux. I got a second opinion and discovered that my gall bladder was completely non functioning; I had gall bladder removal surgery weeks later. Kahrilas was disrespectful & dismissive. Thank God for second opinions.

Dr. Kahrilas' staff provided me with an incorrect billing code prior to (as well as the day of) a procedure, which has been causing issues regarding insurance coverage. I've been going around in circles with my insurance and Northwestern for months, trying to get the mess sorted out. Meanwhile, my insurance company can't get a shred of documentation from Kahrilas, and I can't get so much as a phone call or MyChart message. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone.
