Unprofessionally cancelled appointment
In May, after a head injury, I made an appointment with Dr. Gottschalk through Yale New Haven Health. Unfortunately the earliest I could be seen was January 3rd. Frustrated, but hoping to get off the waitlist, I kept the appointment. In November, with the appointment finally around the corner, I received a message saying the appointment had to be rescheduled due to a 'change in the provider's schedule.' Since it was a January 3rd appointment, you can imagine what that urgent change might have been. The earliest Dr. Gottschalk could now see me was March 27th, nearly a year after my initial head injury. I found this highly unprofessional. Dr. Gottschalk should have set his holiday plans before accepting appointments.

I was not at all impressed with Dr. Gottschalk’s care. After waiting months for an appointment for a migraine that had become intractable for 3 months, Dr. Gottschalk suggested to “break” my headache and come in for an infusion. After being infused with multiple meds in his clinic, I left feeling much worse than I arrived even though he assured me it was “normal.” When I got home, I became physically sick from the meds and was unable to contact him about what to do and scrambled to find another doctor to help me. When I was later put on a medication that was giving me severe abdominal pain, I was unable to contact him about what to do. He would never respond to any emails or messages and quite frankly seemed uninterested in the care of his patients. I ended up having to seek treatment and medical advice elsewhere since he was unable to be contacted. My advice is to stay away from Dr. Gottschalk as you will never get a response.

Dr. Gottschalk examined me in March of 2019. He seemed pleasant ant interested in helping me with my severe headaches. However, he was arrogant and obviously his own biggest fan. He recommended a battery of tests which his staff were to arrange. I waited weeks and weeks for the tests to be arranged and, during all that time, I never heard any news from his staff. I had to keep calling, over and over again for updates on when the tests would be arranged. Also...Dr, Gottschalk had arranged for a scan that required contrast without asking me whether I was willing to take contrast. When I emailed him about the discrepancy, he was rude and dismissive to me - about not consulting with me, or, about his staff never following up with me. His answer was basically...."This is how I run my practice". I never heard from him or his office again. What I will credit him with is that, in the end, the initial medications he gave me mostly resolved my headaches - for which I am thankful.

All I can say to these negative reviews is "Wow". Dr. Gottschalk is far from arrogant. A pill pusher? I have to laugh. He helped my Husband, who was going to the ER 3x+ a week, diagnose his Cluster Headaches & get them manageable. He actually went into remission for a time & w/ Dr. Gottschalk's blessing went off of some of the meds he was taking for the headaches. He's also helped me w/ my Migraines. Even gave us his cell & texted/consulted me when his schedule was overbooked. Great Dr.!!!

Dr. Gottschalk worked miracles for me! I’d suffered migraines from my early teens through to my 50’s. He was the only Dr. To take the time to ask questions I’d never been asked and gave me a wide range of new treatments to consider. I am so grateful to him. At each appointment, he is patient, professional, and very empathetic. I completely disagree with the negative reviews listed here!

I could not agree more with the first review. Dr Gottschalk suppose to be the number 1 in the area of migraine in the state. All he showed up as was a pharmaceutical seller, who saw my sister after 8 months of waiting, did not ask 1 question, did not want to check her history, hormones, bairn images. Nothing! Juts gave her shots prescriptions each would cost her around $1400!!!! He gave her no explanations, he did not look for reasons. Pills were his only answer. Total disappointment.

Arrogant. Pharmaceutical industry backer. Against cannabis even if it's more effective than what he suggests. Told me I couldn't have been in severe pain when I called during extra hours because I could talk.

He is a brilliant physician. He spends ample time with us, asking questions and listening well. He medicates appropriately but aggressively in order to address the problem and get the patient out of pain, and functioning. He is responsive to phone and email requests. Yale has an IV Infusion Center where we can see him same-day to receive IV meds to end a migraine. He's the best neurologist we've had. He's through Yale, a major hospital, so there is some bureaucracy. But worth it.

Dr. Gottschalk has been treating me for a few years now, I see him on a regular basis for treatment, and can call and get an appointment anytime I need one for specialized treatments. Although I've had a long battle and still continue to find a cure he is helpful and compassionate. He takes the time needed to work on our next plan and we continue from there. Out of all my specialists (and I have quite a few) he is my favorite.

I have been seeing Dr. Gottschalk for a couple of years after I lost the greatest headache physician. I managed myself pretty well. I never needed to call Gottschalk urgently. But when I did, I never received a call back. I called the following day and the staff sent him another message. The office called me back 4 days later telling me that Gottschalk is not there this week but a covering provider would be happy to help...4 days of pain and no medication!!! I found another doctor.

Dr. Christopher Gottchalk was the most arrogant and condescending physician I have ever met.. I waited almost a week and a half for MRI results and I had to call and leave 3 messages. he is a verbally abusive man and he humiliated me in front of my daughter. This type of person should not be seeing patients, he lacks empathy and compassion. Doctor/Patient relationships should be built on communication and respect, he has neither. He may be smart but his bedside manner is horrendous.
