Dr. Paul Hellstern, MD

The first two years of seeing Dr. Hellstern, things went ok. This year, it appears they have taken on too many patients. The quality of care is substandard, and I am not getting the care I need.

Excellent Dr. , I would recommend to everyone. This guy really knows his tihs . He takes time to talk and has an excellent , excellent demeanor.

I had a procedure done early part of November after about a week on a new medicine I was having issues and wanted a callback from the doctor. All I kept getting was please make an appointment for eight weeks from now called the office four times and only wanted to speak to the doctor and again got a call back stating make an appointment in eight weeks, no one cared what issues I was having and everyone felt I could wait eight weeks time for a new doctor without knowing what the issue was.

Previous patient of Dr. Hellstern. Tried to get an appointment for severe abdominal pain. Spoke with the front desk and was so rudely dismissed as a concern. Asked if I could be on a waiting list as the doctor couldn't see me "any time soon". I was told there was no such thing. Their lack of concern or care has made me think twice before I see this physician again. I will find another that has a staff more compassionate.

Always has time to talk to you explaining and answering any questions you might have. The office staff is very friendly and competent.

Dr. Hellstern has been taking care of my husband for over six months. He is kind and listens to the patient. Dr. Hellstern’s level of expertise is unsurpassed. He doesn’t order unnecessary tests and is conservative, which is what we all want in a physician.

Dr. Hellstern is a down to earth doctor; he listens and asks a lot of questions. Both my wife and I have him as our Gastroenterologist. He does not try to rush you and spend whatever time needed with us. He has helped both my wife and I and recommend him without reservation.

Dr Hellstern has always been great for me. 20 years ago, he helped diagnose spasmodic dysphonia and sent me to Shands Hospital for treatment. Most other GI called it acid reflux so his diagnosis helped me get the treatments I needed it. I am doing much better with my SD. I also just had a colonoscopy and endoscopy done. I found the surgery staff to be excellent and all and the office staff were professional and friendly. Good experience for me. Dr Hellstern answered all my questions.

I believe Dr Hellstern is very busy, yet he takes plenty of time to explain what he’s plan is and what it involves. His staff from the waiting room to prep and then recovery are wonderful. Overall I had a very good experience and am happy I was referred to Dr Hellstern.

In my opinion, office was dirty. MA did not close door when she took me in the office and took vitals. Dr did not introduce himself to me. Just asked, so what are your complaints. Said I needed colonoscopy. Did not inquire if I had any allergies to anesthesia, etc. Which I do. Did not do a physical exam. Earliest appt for colonoscopy is 11 am. Did not seem professional or like I am accustomed to receiving.

Dr Hellstern worked me in next day after I told staff I had chronic diarrhea for 2 months He immediately took me off the harmful antibiotics my GP had me on & wanted to give my gut a month to straighten out. 2nd visit: still no change in diarrhea, we now have scheduled gallbladder ultrasound & colonoscopy My only complaint is doctor is so popular that I have to go another month of chronic diarrhea before having colonoscopy & ultrasound to hopefully find out problem. Dr, PA & staff are All great!

Nightmare form hell, and i wasn't even the patient.

Dr. Paul A. Hellstern has been our physician for nineteen years. He is knowledgeable, confident and extremely caring. We both had colonoscopy and endoscopy. He explains the procedure in detail and the findings in layman's terminology. When I was in the hospital he explained the upcoming tests and the reason for them. He is a good doctor honest and upfront which is exactly why we have recommended him to numerous people. Richard & Geraldine Gralto

This D. not only saved my life by the right diagnosis but rushed me into the liver transplant program at Shands. Because of his caring and ability to care HAS GIVEN ME 8 MORE YEARS TO MY LIFE SO FAR. HE HAS always LISTENED TO ME, ASKED THE RIGHT QUESTIONS AND GIVEN ME THE BEST CARE

Would die before i would have to go see this man again. He lied to me over and over about my test results which were read to me by a real gastro doctor. Never Again!!

Dr. Hellstern is very unprofessional and has NO bedside manner. As a matter of fact he down right mean and manhandles his patients. He does not listen to you as a patient at all and his medical advice is sub par at best!

Caring, alert and understanding of a patients needs.
