I have seen Dr Hurlbut for years now. From shoulder impingement to tendinitis in my elbow, and now today for my knee. His staff is great, and he always listens to my concerns, and gives me the best care every time I go in to Prairie Orthopedic.

Informative
Dr. Hurlbut performed an examination that resulted in a much different outcome than I expected. Very informative about what he believes the injury is, next steps, and referral to neurosurgeon. I left feeling very confident in his analysis.

100% Recommendation
His P.A. was very good at getting my Prescription drug info. and what meds I was allergic to. She checked the wrist manually and had x-rays taken. Dr. Hurlbut then came in and was updated on the P.A.’s findings of which he concurred. He then explained my condition to a resident understudy Dr. He then explained that the occasional trigger lock on my left middle finger was not related to my sore left wrist. He then said I could wait and see if my wrist pain got better, as my condition does in some cases, or have the wrist scoped when having surgery for the trigger lock. I chose waiting to see how the wrist pain gets, before considering any surgery on the wrist. He said to let his office know if the trigger lock and wrist conditions cause me to seek help with persistent pain.

Talks Over Your Head
Dr. Hurlbut performed my right shoulder rotator cuff almost two years ago. He spends less than 10 minutes with the patient including your first visit. He stands for about 5 minutes and speaks some medical jargon I was not familiar with. He is all over the map when trying to explain the procedure or even the post-op visits. There are physical therapy protocols for rotator cuff surgery. He doesn't even follow his own protocols which is confusing to the patient and to the physical therapist. He lacks sympathy or empathy. He doesn't have a good bedside manner at all. I felt like a product on a surveyor belt getting missed. His so-called procedure for rotator cuff surgery must be unconventional like he is. I had so much post-op pain that was not well controlled. It is two years later and I suffer from pain. It is a living nightmare. I do not recommend him. If you do see him, good luck. I hope you have a better experience than I did!

A Surgeon For Your Needs
I don't know why I require so much fixing up, but a 2010 motorcycle accident didn't help. Dr. Hurlbut has performed surgery on a number of locations on me, from shoulders to fingertips. The fear this last time was that a shoulder replacement would be necessary rather than another rotator cuff repair. Turns out that there was just enough of the tendons left to facilitate the repair. The idea was that this time there would be a bovine implant included to help the healing process. Currently being 76 years old, the recuperation process is slower yet, but nine months in, it appears that my recovery is over 60%. This is already better than a replacement. Skilled work and good advice, yet again, from Dr. Hurlbut.

Grateful
I am grateful for Dr. Hurlbut and his staff, especially my physical therapist, Erica Heiman. The injury caused to my finger by a hedge trimmer accident was traumatic for me, but I was immediately reassured that all would be fine when I met with Dr. Hurlbut. His willingness to take time with me and explain the damage that was done and the surgical repair required was so helpful. He and Erica were always just a phone call or a text message away when I had questions or concerns and their timely responses were extraordinary - to say the least. I have never witnessed such genuine compassion, care and concern from health care staff as I did with them. My finger is not 100% functional, but I am fortunate to still have my finger and to have it functioning as well as it is. This is due to Dr. Hurlbut and Erica. Praise be to God for them!
