Agreed to "add" what I asked when completing an ultrasound but brushed off my ideas and input

There was just one moment when the doctor spoke with a bit of a condescending tone because I had not completed a follow-up visit related to a previous appointment. There are lots of reasons a family might not be able to access follow-up care. No need to pass judgment for that without knowing the reasons.

This was quite a startling visit for us. We did not feel the doctor was prepared. We also struggled with the word "failing" that she used several times to discus his liver. We have not heard that word used before to discus our son's unique liver. We know it is unique and not working as others might but he has lasted for 14+ years on the Kasai procedure. I think that is remarkable. She also referenced how his WBC and platelets are decreasing over time. This was news to us. She said she had told us this before. We don't remember it. She also went very in-depth, with our son, about what makes his liver special. Unfortunately, she had a very negative approach (more doom and gloom) than ways we can fix it in the future. I finally had to step in and say, "But don't worry. We could do a liver transplant." My husband, son, and I all left feeling like it was a "worst case" scenario instead of a "best case" scenario, which we have always understood it to be. I had to actually...

I fully understand that we are 1 in 1000s of people this doctor will see in the coming days, weeks, months, years. This is our first go round with what is plaguing my child.I've never felt so much that a doctor didn't care about my child as I did with this specialist. I don't care that they're a specialist, it doesn't matter how many times they throw down that they are. I care how much they work with my child. I care how much they answer my questions. I have a kid who will have to go back but shakes when I mention it. There are tears and there's anger and hurt. How should I approach that with my child? I want what was given to work as much or more as the specialist does; I want my kid to get better. When I ask, "what should we do if this gets worse?" I'm asking for an action plan because I have weeks of experience with my child where it's getting worse. Cutting me off to tell me "it won't" is not kind or compassionate. If I raise concern because what we're being asked to do differs...

At first I think the doctor didn't realize how anxious my kid was about this - and the proposed treatment. But when I reminded her about Helene's anxiety and tried to talk what I think her concern was (she thought she wouldn't be able to control BMs at school) - then Dr. Erickson was more supportive and clear that it wouldn't have that effect.

I felt heard, but was slightly dismissed in that a dairy allergy is so common so it likely is that (with no other comments on what if it not). She provided good education and calmed some anxieties, though.

Shortly after birth, my son had high direct bilirubin and we were referred to Dr. Erickson. The bilirubin continued to increase and after 1 month, she ordered an MMP-7 test, and when it came back with a low probability of Biliary Atresia, she wrote it off and was nearly impossible to get ahold of. She let us know we could schedule genetic testing and after calling to schedule it, that would be a few months out. With Biliary Atresia, time is very sensitive. I had 3 or 4 messages and calls that were never returned. We ended up calling the Mayo Clinic and getting in the next morning. Within 3 days he was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia and received his life-saving surgery. I write for parents who are potentially dealing with Biliary Atresia, as I now know that time is extremely sensitive for this diagnosis and Dr. Erickson is not someone who I found to care about that.

Would do zero stars if it was an option. Worst experience ever with a physician. Cannot handle any sort of questioning. Hostile, aggressive and has no ability to admit what she does not know. Would rather ramble on with condescending tone. No matter how desperate you are for help for your child skip this one. There are other choices of physicians who do not have a goal of proving a parent wrong at the cost of the child. Run!
