Dr Colyvas: A True Expert
Dr Colyvas is the go-to chap if you want an expert knee surgeon. Once I’d researched the need for having my medial meniscus root tear repaired (literature shows if you don’t, chances are you’ll need a TKR in 3 years), I did an exhaustive search - including asking Physical Therapists for recs - for the very best surgeon in the SF Bay Area: Dr C at UCSF.But besides his clear expertise, he is a caring practitioner, very good communicator, answers questions without feeling rushed and his follow up is great. I would wholeheartedly recommend him. I had my surgery in May 2024.

Highly recommend for meniscus repair
Dr Colyvas was very professional and kind throughout the entire process. It was my first surgical experience and he made me feel very comfortable and explained everything thoroughly and easy for me to understand. He called me same day after the surgery to make sure everything was going well. I like that he was honest and gave me options other than surgery but explained why surgery was the best option. I went to three different doctors and he was the only one that made me feel like a human and not just another operation.

Excellent Surgeon
Dr. Colyvas is a great doctor/surgeon who listens to his patients and will not suggest surgery unless you really need it. He guided me with my meniscus injury for many months before surgery became the obvious option. And the surgery went well. I highly recommend Dr. Colyvas.

Feeling fortunate to be in the care of Dr. Colyvas
Dr. Colyvas and his team made me feel comfortable and confident from day one when I was referred for a more complex meniscus repair surgery. He is extremely experienced and skilled (which probably matters the most), but also very compassionate and caring. He understands that you have things you want to get back to in life - in my case being active - and wants to help you get back there. I had no trouble scheduling appointments or getting through to his team. I am in the recovery period now and feeling very grateful and hopeful!

Professional team who care about the patient.
I chose UCSF orthopedic department because, I was wanting to get the best care out there. From the minute I walked in the office, I was treated with respect, all my questions were answered at every visit, and I never felt rushed at my visits. My whole team of doctors, nurses and office staff were available 24/7, which was very reassuring for me after my surgery. Every individual that was part of the surgical team introduced themselves to me, explained their role in my surgery. I did not have to worry about anything prior to my surgery.

ACL and Miniscus repair
I had a thoughtful evaluation and confirmation through xray and MRI before scheduling surgery. Everything was explained in detail and executed flawlessly as outlined. Responsiveness before and after surgery to my questions was quick and efficient, I only had to focus on getting better.

Nick is the best.
Dr Colyvas was cautious about the success probability of an arthroscopic meniscal surgery, but when I said that I hoped for a solid return to athletic movement, he suggested this was probably the best option. He kept me informed all the way and I'm now in recovery stage and about to start PT. Delighted.

Repair Success
Dr. Colyvas is very professional and has a great bed side manner. He thoroughly explained what he was going to do prior to surgery and showed me what he had done post surgery with images. I had just gone to another doctor and had the same procedure done and it had failed, so I went into this surgery with some apprehension, but Dr. Colyvas quickly squandered that and did an amazing job.

I am grateful to Dr. Colyvas for his gracious contributions to my shoulder diagnosis and surgery. While he was not my primary doctor, Dr. Colyvas was generously helping behind the scenes. He initially provided his expertise in diagnosing my condition and then volunteered to be a co-surgeon during my complicated revision shoulder surgery. He was instrumental in finding a solution, during surgery, to a problem that was caused by my previous doctor. Because of Dr. Colyvas, I had a shorter surgery, a smaller scar, and a fully functional shoulder once again. I only briefly met Dr. Colyvas, but his kindness and care were transparent and of equal balance to the tremendous skill and knowledge he possesses.

Dr Colyvas operated my left knee for menisci and cartilage repairs. Everything has gone exactly as he described it to me during my visits with him prior to the surgery. He is caring, professional, and very personable physician. When, in my first post-op visit he wanted to check the reason my calf was swollen, he immediately sent me to the ER for the necessary tests. He called me both evenings: following my surgery, and following my short ER visit. I highly recommend Dr Colyvas for anyone with sport injuries.
