I’ve been seeing Dr Paterson through Kaiser for about 6 months and have had two appointments with him (one virtual one in person). Because both experiences have been positive, I googled him to see if I could learn more about his schooling and areas of specialization just out of curiosity. I was very surprised to see the negative reviews pop up instead and part of me wonders if there’s two Dr Paterson’s that are getting mixed up??? I’ve found him to be patient, attentive when I talk, and left me feeling like I was involved in making treatment decisions instead of them being imposed on me. I’ve had a couple awful experiences with psychiatrists in the past, so I certainly know what it’s like. Perhaps I’ve been catching him on his good days. But I’d still encourage others to consider giving him a chance despite the poor reviews.

Shouldn’t be a doctor
upon first meeting I told him that I thought my parent had a mental disorder, he wrote that I had that and it’s on my medical records for life. And he won’t remove it. He couldn’t seem LESS interested and prescribed me very strong prescriptions that made everything worse.

Review like he does
Telehealth
He is the internet search bar of doctors. You come to him with anxiety he will tell you, you are narcissistic. If you come to him with depression he would probably tell you, you are schizophrenic. He’s bad, very bad. Do everything in your power to stay away from him. He doesn’t help, just judges.

Traumatizing - Avoid at all costs
Just a horrible doctor. Didn’t listen, gave no advice, and was openly hostile. I’m incredulous that he’s employed. A complete waste of time and I left the appointment worse off than I came in.

AVOID THIS GUY AT ALL COSTS
This was the most awful service provider visit I have had in my entire life - and I was in the military for six years. He started the video call 15 minutes late with an annoyed and aggressive, "yeah?" as if I was interrupting him. It went downhill from there. He was cold, rude, and borderline hostile. Scowling at the camera throughout the call, he did not project any sort of professionalism or willingness to help me. I tried three times to reframe the conversation back to a more productive visit and he was completely uninterested and disengaged in exploring the mental health issues that I was looking for help with. Dismissive and outright adversarial, he rolled his eyes several times as I tried to describe my lived experiences and had the audacity to tell me in the first 5 minutes of the conversation that I got my symptoms from social media. When I asked him to elaborate, he refused. No exploratory questions. No thoughtful analysis. Simply dismissive, minimizing, and rude. The WORST.

Dr. Paterson is honestly the best psych I've ever met. Every session w him has been so relieving and comfortable. I'm writing this review partly because I just googled him and saw these negative reviews and could not believe it - he's super gentle and compassionate and easy to talk to, and also super professional and knowledgeable. Great listener, great bedside manner. Would highly recommend to any and every one.

My experience with Dr. Paterson was absolutely awful. From the beginning of the appointment, he scoffed at my experience, was not sympathetic in any measure of the word, and belittled my anxiety and depression. He made me feel extremely uneasy and unsafe. In addition, he felt disengaged and distracted the entire time. My experience with therapists and psychiatrists has historically been wonderful, comforting, and safe. This felt all things opposite. I would never allow a friend or a daughter to see him.

Dr. Paterson was cold, disengaged, and wrote an incomplete and inaccurate medical record on my behalf. He was belittling and arrogant and I left the meeting feeling terrible and crying.

As another reviewer said, dr. Paterson was disengaged and rather cold. Did not shake my hand when he greeted me, just held the door and turned his back for me to follow down the hall. I came in for a psychiatric evaluation and he just asked me some general questions about my "struggles" then immediately prescribed lexapro. At first I thought I misunderstood what a psych eval entails, but researching it after my consultation with him confirms it is NOT what I received. I could've said anything and he would prescribed anything at the drop of the dime. Please avoid.

Visiting with Mr Paterson was unpleasant to say the least. He was confrontational from the very first minute. He was rude, disengaged, and unsympathetic towards my severe anxiety, depression, and panic attacks. Beyond that, he belittled me and made me feel uneasy throughout our session. He treated me like a child when all I wanted was to make progress in my life. I would NEVER recommend this insecure individual to treat anyone.
