About 15 years ago our friend had 2 prostate surgeries by doctor Marshall Stein's dad. After a few years, the dad passed my friend to his son. Marshall has been treating our friend's growing prostate for at least 10 years, now, attempting to reduce its size with drugs. On December 7th our friend couldn't urinate and attempted to see Marshall. Neither the younger nor the elder Stein was available and their office said there were no backup arrangements. So my husband took our friend to an emergency clinic associated with the hospital where the Steins practice. A CT scan found the prostate to be "larger than his bladder" -- "the size of a grapefruit." After three trips to the ER and a trip to Memorial Hermann downtown our friend died in the early morning hours of December 15. On December 16 my husband notified Dr. Stein of the death’s (cancelling an upcoming appointment) and Dr. Marshall seemed annoyed at the intrusion. No “sorry for your loss”.
