I was referred to Dr. Istfan for weight management. I've had a number virtual visits with him but we have not met in person. My sense is that his professional interest is in research and patient care is a means to an end. That's fine. I have dealt with weight issues most of my life and I was looking for a clinical solution. In short, the treatment protocol he recommended has worked very well. Also, when I did have a serious complication, he was instrumental in guiding me to the care providers who could remedy the problem. I've found that Dr. Istfan is more than wiling to answer questions, if asked. I'm pleased that I was referred to him.

Traumatizing visit
What was supposed to be an appointment to discuss health and weight management turned into Dr. Istfan blaming weight gain solely on the patient, calling me an emotional eater when I have always struggled in my relationship with food. I had to combat with Dr. Istfan just to get a thyroid panel ordered. When I asked him if any other hormonal tests could help, he proceeded to give me a defensive lecture on his credentials instead and pushed injections/surgery. Dr. Istfan's approach to patient care is archaic and you can tell he does not have an ounce of passion for patient care. I gained nothing after this visit with Dr. Istfan except for more guilt and negativity about my body. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend anyone looking for help with weight management to meet with this provider.
