Rude and dismissive
I saw OBGYN Monica Smith for my annual gyno exam. I will note that the male medical student that observed was very kind and cared to listen to me. Monica was less than pleasant. She is one of many gynos who think birth control solves everything. She couldn't have cared less as to why my ovulation was so incredibly painful that I cry (I have a high pain tolerance so this is abnormal). She wanted to treat the symptoms with birth control rather than figure out the issue. When I denied birth control (when asked about what contraception I used), she said she 'Couldn't help me' with my painful ovulation since birth control stops ovulation. She also didn't seem to care at all about my bleeding between periods & after sex since my 'cervix is fine'. I have honestly never had a good experience with WHS Gynecology and Monica was the cherry on top. I don't plan on returning for Gynecology. I've never felt so unheard and dismissed.

I don’t recommend
This is the first time I’ve had this doctor and I will never go to her again. She was not comforting at ALL. She made it seem as if my appointment was a chore and just trying to get in and out instead of making me comfortable, she didn’t let me fully numb and I’m in pain.

I wish all doctors were this considerate & kind!
I have been a patient of Dr. Smith’s for several years, and have always been so pleased with her knowledge, expertise, and kindness. She is truly one of the most genuinely caring doctors that I have ever met, and addresses all of my concerns as they arise. It was recently determined that I needed a hysterectomy, and Dr. Smith switched her schedule, including forfeiting some well-deserved time off, to accommodate my needs. She cares, she listens, she’s excellent in her field, and I am extremely grateful that she is my doctor!

Let me start off by saying that I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt. I am almost 26 weeks pregnant with my first child and have been apart of Washington Health system my entire life. Dr. Monica Smith is one of the least caring and compassionate doctors I’ve ever experienced in my life. The first time I was scheduled with her she was in and out of my room in less than 2 minutes. As a first time mom you look forward to the Doppler and hearing the babies heart beat. She rushed right through that and didn’t give me a chance to hear it. Then dismissed how incredibly bad my all day nausea was. This last experience is why I am switching practices so late in my pregnancy. Again, was in and out of my exam room in less than 2 minutes yet again. This time dismissed a concerning pain I’ve been experiencing in my breast. If you are looking for a doctor that cares about your concerns, save yourself and look elsewhere.

Dr. Smith was cordial and friendly during my initial visit, although my time with the doctor was notably brief. I spend more time in the waiting room than I did in the exam room. I expected her to ask more questions and get to know my history a bit more since I am middle-aged, and this was my first time seeing her. The larger problem was that there were four people in the small room during my exam. The doctor and her assistant were the only ones present at first, but two more employees entered before the physical exam. All four stood at the foot of the bed as she performed my breast exam and pap smear. I was never asked if I was comfortable having that many people present. In the past, I have been asked for permission before interns or staff members in training were permitted into the room. It made me very uncomfortable - so much so that I will not be returning.

I would give her negative stars if I could. Saw her once as a new patient recently. Worst experience I have ever had with any doctor. Hardly let me speak, rushed through the appointment, in/out of exam room including a PAP within 5 minutes. She looked at labs for about 20 seconds that I brought with me, said she'd never seen labs like that, referred to me as "girl" while stating the lab results would indicate I was in menopause (in my early 30s!) then ordered repeat labs with no further information. She spoke over me then walked out of the room. She made me feel like a was just a number in her day to get through. I think she's suffering from serious physician burn out!

If I could give this doctor zero stars I would. She was very rude and brief, had no interest in anything I had to say and talked to me like I was an idiot. I told her I wasnt comfortable with the treatment options she offered me (she didn't even take the time to explain them) and she said "Well if you dont like it then there's nothing I can do for you". Then when I started getting upset she kept asking why in a very rude manner. The whole experience was extremely demoralizing and i would NEVER EVER go and see her again.

She is by far the WORST doctor I have ever encountered! She is ignorant and disrespectful! I have only had one baby and she made my first experience giving birth a living HELL! I suffer anxiety of having another child because of her! She refused to give me pain meds bc she didnt want it to slow my labor down, left me lay in a hospital bed in excrushiating pain for 26+hrs and when I finally started pushing(with no energy) she said “you will never get this baby out if you keep pushing like that!”

I would give her zero stars if I could. She is rude and condescending. Refuses to explain diagnosis with patients. Just an all around terrible doctor.
