A year ago I had an L4L5 Spinal Fusion. I did not see Dr Shaw either before or after surgery on the day of surgery. As I was being rolled into surgery by a member of the team I was told that Dr Shaw was not doing the surgery, rather, a 7th year resident was doing ; however, “he is very good”! Shocked I had no option except to jump off the surgical cart! Which I did not do. I should have. I began having different problems than before surgery just 4 months after surgery. I could not reach Dr Shaw—-or rather, I would get call-backs saying this was normal. This was in October and Dr Shaw’s office said “well, you have a. Appt coming in December, we’ll take care of it then. I was shocked. I was in pain. I had problems that did not exist before surgery. I didn’t understand why he didn’t call me in right away to x-ray etc. About every month to 6 weeks after that something new would occur. To make a long story short I have ended up much worse than before my surgery. I have numbness, pain, tingling in my left hip. I have pain above the surgery site. I have a loose screw in the hardware so what was supposed to be fused is not. I have pain all the way down my left leg to ankle. I now walk with a cane——or for any distance at all, a walker. I am on opoids around the clock. I have gotten a second opinion and am being encouraged to REPEAT THIS SURGERY. I will get another opinion. And really don’t know if I should settle for the limitations I have now or try again. I am in my 80’s. My back has aged me 10 years in the last 3. I am young in looks. Young at heart and outlook. I would urge you to find a different surgeon!

A superior healer. I would describe Dr. Mitesh Shah as excellent, brilliant, and very knowledgeable. He performed perfectly for me a complex lumbar spine fusion and a laminectomy with new disk inserted. I highly recommend your care concerns to Dr. Mitesh Shah.

Dr. Shah is calm and direct in his conversations about my problems. He educates me about what is going on and lets me view the scans. As a surgeon, I trust him explicitly. His staff is also very personable and respectful. I would recommend him without a doubt.

Dr. Shah is an excellent surgeon, judging by my results after being diagnosed with a brain tumor and his reputation in the field. However, his "bedside manner" could use some work. He was dismissive during appointments and seemed annoyed when I would ask him to explain something further. He canceled my last appointment to go over my annual MRI results and never called as promised. I guess I was supposed to read my results myself. Luckily, I have friends in medicine to help interpret.
