Lost 4 years of my life because of Dr. Stein

In 2021 I saw Dr. Stein for seizures. He determined they were psychogenic, and suggested I seek treatment for trauma and headaches. I sought treatment for both, and have since seen several doctors and therapists regarding these issues. I recieved injections at Barrow to help the headaches, and then I moved across the country to recieve treatment for psychogenic seizures, which was not available to me in AZ. I have been through neuropsych treatments including self hypnosis with some of the foremost experts on functional neurological disorders in the world... and none of it worked. Late in 2024 my current psychaitrist felt something wasn't right when I started having issues with leg mobility, and she referred me to a neurosurgeon. The neurosurgeon took a look at my MRIs, including the scans from Dr. Stein in AZ, and diagnosed me with Chiari Malformation and tethered spinal cord, which has caused significant Scoliosis as well. Dr. Stein is absolutely outstanding. Period. He is by far my most enjoyed Epileptologist. He treats his patients with the utmost respect and dives into conversation, listening to your every word. He doesn’t miss a beat. He’s calm, collected and extremely reliable. He’s there every appointment, or in a pinch in sudden circumstances. I go out of my way to write about him as he deserves such. If you see a negative review, I’d take it with a grain of salt. Michael is a phenomenal human being and a top-level Neurologist, to say the least. He makes you feel privileged to be under have his care.

Dr. Stein treats his patients as persons, not as a specimen with a neurological disorder. He has expended usually one hour or longer to discuss the ailment and courses of action, also recommending various medications. In my experience has demonstrated a humanity to me. His departure is indeed a loss to Rush and the patients and a tremendous benefit to his new patients. In sum I will miss him immensely because he has been is so learned and so compassionate.
