If you are going to service the elderly population, I think you should be sensitive to those who are hard of hearing. It's not that difficult to look directly at the patient and talk louder. Instead, Dr. Hellwege chose to treat my father (the patient) as if he was not even in the room when he would ask him to repeat something. To give one example, my father asked him to repeat a question about his heart medication. Instead of repeating himself, Dr. Hellwege just waved both his arms in the air and went on to discuss something else. I gently said, you can ask my father, you just need to speak louder and Dr. Hellwege responded poorly to this as well. I would like my father to have been treated with more dignity as a patient. It is hard enough for my father to admit when he needs repetition. Being treated as a nuisance by Dr. Hellwege does not help.

This surgeon was my Angel sent directly from God! He actually saw me with no insurance and it was not a factor at all with him rushing to save my life! He is so compassionate and educated. He took me apart and put me back together like it was a simple walk in the park. If your looking for a surgeon who is straight forward and has your best interest in mind... you have found him!! He is simply amazing!! Surgery was August 5th and I’m already close to normal. He was aggressive and he fixed me!!!!

Dr. Hellwege time is extremely important, so if you expect him to spend more than a minute in the same room examining you, just forget it. If you have a question do not expect him to answer it, you should be ashamed of yourself for even questioning him or wasting his time, he is a Doctor. Some people say he is rude, self-centered, and arrogant and are probably right. Therefore, if you wish to be treated like a human with respect, and have someone take the time and answer your questions and not process you like cattle I strongly suggest you find another Doctor. Whether or not if he is a good surgeon or not I cannot say but I can assure you with his mannerism he will not be preforming any surgery on me.It is a shame you have to give him at least one star, but you have to or it will not let you rate your true experience.

Dr. Hellwege has zero bedside manner. When I asked questions after my surgery to determine why I got an infection, he acted like I had no business questioning his methods. I can not recommend him to anyone.

I would not recommend this doctor. I went to him for my colonoscopy. There were NO pictures, NO written report. I was told they removed three polyps, size unknown AND I was told I have cancer, no biopsy was taken of that area to identify type. When I went for a second opinion I was treated badly and it was taken personal. THEY found 5 additional polyps, 1 precancerous and HUGE (2cm) at the Splenic Flexure (within a few inches of the identified cancer that was a 7cm tumor

Dr. Hellwege was the on call Dr for my Dr. Dr Harrington, and filled in with expertise and professionalism. Thank you Dr Hellwege.

He was called in on 1/1/17 for my emergency care for Pancreatitis. He was a poised, professional and set me up for surgery the next day. I am truly satisfied with his skill and professionalism.

Dr. Hellwege was extremely unprofessional and discourteous when he came to visit my wife in the hospital a few days ago. Paying a visit to show concern is one thing, but instead, he chose to insult her by asking where the surgery was held, and when she did not give the response he wanted, he mocked her by saying That's not what I asked you. His total attitude and demeanor made my wife very upset. Is he like this with all his patients? I don't expect to get one, but he owes us an apology.
