Thorough and great guidance
I've always been diagnosed quickly and accurately and then provided well-informed treatment options (things my prior doctor failed to do). I especially appreciate the excellent peri- and menopause care I receive and feel lucky to have a doctor who supports HRT so I can live my best life.

Rude Comments
I saw Dr. Michael Cotter on this visit. I was experiencing irregular bleeding and wanted to investigate the cause. This doctor said some very unprofessional things during the exam and I felt quite uncomfortable. While he was doing an internal check, he said he felt something on my cervix that is common in pregnant women. I am not a medical professional, and so I asked “does this mean I’m pregnant?“ He said, “Well, are you or are you not?” I said, “I sure hope I’m not.”He said “Why on earth would you ask then if you have no reason to think you’re pregnant?”I said, “you mentioned there was something present on my cervix that pregnant women typically have.“ He retorted, “And I see plenty of women with big bellies, which pregnant women typically have. That doesn’t mean they’re pregnant.” This is one of many unprofessional and sarcastic comments he made that made me feel belittled and dismissed. At another point during the check-in, he said it was “uncomfortable for both of us.”

Best dr I have ever had
He has a good sense of humor and provides excellent advice. He is very knowledgeable in everything I have had to experience. He has amazing compassion and sympathy! Having some heart breaking appointments lately, he has made me feel better with all the information and reassurance he provides. He makes difficult choices easy to make, allowing himself to put himself in the same situation to make some insight on what should be done. He has been my Dr for about 4 years now and I wouldn’t change that for anything.

Disappointed patient
The office demonstrated a disappointing level of incompetence in handling my requests for a phone consultation, despite repeated inquiries. The brevity of the consultation with the doctor further underscored the lackluster experience. I cannot recommend this establishment to expectant individuals seeking prenatal care.

People in healthcare drive hours to see him.
My sister is a labor and delivery nurse and she drives two hours to see him because he is the best. I am a physician and so is my husband. We are very picky about our physicians we see. You could not ask for a better, more knowledgeable and kind one. He truly cares about his patients.

He Has No Business Being an OB/GYN
Do not let this man near your bits! My experience with him during the birth of my second child was horrendous and traumatizing. His bedside manner is abysmal at best. To add insult to injury, he demeaned me when I expressed concerns (that were caused by him) at my postpartum visit. His response was that I should spend more time watching the news and less time focusing on the issues I brought up to him.

Excellent surgeon
I chose Dr.Cotter for my second pregnancy due to his reputation as an excellent surgeon. After an emergency C section for my first child, I was looking for a competent and trustworthy doctor, not a friend to talk about the weather with. I appreciated that he was thorough but cut to the chase at every appointment. My delivery went off without a hitch, thanks to him and his team. At my one week checkup, I had a huge spike in my BP and needed to be readmitted. I appreciate that he caught that (I felt fine) and he was very compassionate and helpful. The office staff made a few minor scheduling errors, but nothing mattered more than a great delivery and the health of my child.

He told me he hates being woken up to deliver babies at the outset. Next he was finding every excuse imaginable to do a scheduled c-section. I resisted as long as I could, wanting my baby ripe and ready. But he threatened to reject me as a patient and claimed I would never be accepted by any obstetrician in the country. Eventually, with a huge amount of drama and yelling, I ended up constrained and practically forced to comply with his wishes. Now my son, having been birthed 2 weeks earlier than he was ripe, suffers from developmental delays in all areas. It will not be Dr. Cotter to take care of him for the rest of his life, however Dr. Cotter was able to save one night of sleep as a result. I would only recommend Dr. Cotter to a woman already needing a scheduled delivery and one who is ultra skinny and looks like e model, as Dr. Cotter gets angry every time I gained weight and claimed I am killing my baby by eating too much.

I had the worst medical experience of my life with Dr. Cotter. He had bad bedside manner & was dismissive of my initial concerns & pain, was subsequently rough during my exam even after knowing I was already in pain, & didn't stop what he was doing even as I was literally crying on the table. Lying there, vulnerable, while a doctor hurt me w no regard for my pain was humiliating. He then called me back & told me I needed to have an invasive procedure, which, thank god, another doctor stepped in & told me was completely unnecessary the day I came in to have it done. After leaving my initial exam I felt so violated & just sat crying in my car. I've never had an experience like this with any obgyn & I still have pain from the experience to this day. He is the reason I refuse to see a male gynecologist ever again. Reading these other reviews, it seems like he used to be an OK doctor but he has apparently become burnt out since then & has zero compassion or care for his patients.

Dr Cotter started as my GYN and became my OB too. He delivered both of my babies and I couldn't have asked for better care. My OB/GYN needs are more complicated than some but I've never worried or been made to feel like a challenging patient. Dr Cotter and all of his staff are fantastic. I'm pretty sad my relocation is going to necessitate a new doc. I'd recommend Dr. Cotter any day of the week and twice on Sundays :)

I had a horrible experience with Dr. Cotter. He is a friendly person, but as a doctor he was not the right person to give me the care I needed. I'm having complications (I'm 37 weeks pregnant with my 6th child) and he continued to brush off everything I was saying. Instead he wanted to talk about gun control and global warming when my blood pressure was running really high. I transferred to Shands because I've had great experiences there. I would not recommend Dr. Cotter.
