Good Doctor Lousy Service
After having put up with Dr Roat's old school administrative practices for years I have reached the end of my rope. I called today to get a copy of my eyeglass prescription after having had a refraction last year. It had been determined there was no change since 2019. The office did not have a record of the refraction and would not provide me with prescription since according to their lousy records i hadn't had the refraction. The administrator told me i need to see the Dr again. I asked to speak with the Dr. she said he would not return my call. I was unwilling to see the Dr again, I asked her what to do, she said I could go someplace else to get a prescription, so i hung up. I have been on the fence about staying with this practice for years, there is no patient portal, Communicating with this practice is difficult, scheduling must be done months in advance. The consumer experience is poor. Feels like its run on a shoestring, is very busy and doesn't really care if your satisfied.

I have a genetic condition that has led me to see a number of ophthalmologists over the years. Dr. Roat is without a doubt the best I have seen. He listened carefully to my history, did a very thorough exam, and explained his findings in a way that no other doctor has done in more than twenty years. He then recommended a treatment plan and emphasized that he would not accept anything less that complete relief. Rather than the usual “see you when it becomes intolerable”, he scheduled me for revisits in 2 weeks and again in 2 months in case I still had any symptoms. The idea that I could actually be symptom free was a revelation; and the fact that someone would care that much about my comfort and wellbeing almost made me cry. Dr. Roat spends a lot of time with his patients. Bring a book or an audiobook. He is worth the wait.

I agree completely with the 5 star recommendations above. I feel very fortunate to be under Dr. Roat's care for my eyesight, which is so very important to me. Besides being an expert, highly professional doctor, he is warm and caring, a good listener who is easy to talk with, a truly good person. He explains what is happening with my eyes in terms that I understand. I have complete confidence in him and I always recommend him, without reservation, to friends who are seeking an extraordinary opthalmologist!

this is not in reference to a visit because my husband never got to see dr. roat because my husband did not have his co-pay and the office did not have my husbands health information and no one in the office was intelligent enough to ask me to send it over. so if you dont have the co-pay or cant pay up front. but offer to be billed you are sol.

A knowledgeable doctor with a terrible office staff. I go to the Lankenau office. They are rude, will not return calls, and do not respect patients. There was an error in the transcription of my prescription and I've found it impossible to get past the office to have it fixed. I've had problems with billing and could not get that taken care of either.

Dr. Roat was extremely kind and put my daughter at ease even though she has a very, very serious eye infection. He is extremely knowledgable and professional. He explains things every step of the way and in terms a patient can understand. My daughter and I are more than impressed with him. He is supremely caring and saw her on Saturdays and Sundays. He is one of the nicest human beings I have ever met, and our visit may constitute the best doctor's visit in my life.

I was in his office for literally 2 hours and 45 minutes. When I asked one of the staff, she laughed and said, "Oh, it's always like this in here!" When Dr. Roat met with me, he was rushing the entire time and didn't take time to explain things thoroughly. They dilated my eyes, but never said that was going to happen. When I asked the nurse if I'd be able to drive home, she ALSO laughed at me and said yes. Guess what, I couldn't drive home & had to pull over because everything was blurry.

Dr. Roat treated me for allergies for over three months. When there was no improvement, I got a second opinion. I was diagnosed with lymphoma of the eye and eye orbit. They also insisted I pay a copy at every visit when my insurance company said it wasn't correct. My insurance company contacted them and they had to send me a check for all but the first visit. I would not recommend his practice!

I would recommend Dr. Roat to anyone, no matter what level of eye care they need. When you are with him you are his sole focus. He listens to your questions and answers them all with respect and expertise. He is an excellent communicator who loves his work. Every visit is a positive, reassuring learning experience. Any medical student or medical school would be fortunate to have him as a professor. I am fortunate to have him as my ophthamologist.
