Worst care I’ve ever experienced
I saw Dr. Gunter multiple times in the hospital postpartum when she happened to be the doctor on call. I’ve never experienced such blatant disregard of what I was experiencing as an patient and quite frankly of facts. She made me feel legitimately insanely for a day there, like the pain was in my head and a 103° fever postpartum was normal “postpartum inflammation” and the masses growing on my ovary were “normal cysts”. I had to keep coming back to the hospital with fever and in excruciating pain because of things like her telling me to stop taking the antibiotics another doctor prescribed them. She said it was “just gas” even though it was the worst pain of my life. Nope…It was a terrible postpartum infection that then required my ovary removed because it no longer responded to antibiotics.

For over 10 years my pain was overlooked by doctor Gunter. I was told my pain was normal and part of being a women. That I just had heavy periods. But my periods would soak through multiple pads in a short amount of time. She told me nothing was wrong. That I just needed birth control. But the pills and iud never relieve my pain or regulated my periods. I finally choose to get a second opinion. And I’m grateful I did. I found a doctor that listened to me and my concerns. My pain wasn’t in my head. I had surgery to remove endometriosis that had spread all throughout my body. Something Dr. Gunter never caught and told me it was unlikely I had. I wouldn’t recommend her unless you want to wait years for an answer or to be told it’s all in your head.

I was seeking a new provider who can be understanding in caring for a patient like myself who is equally concerned with both prevention as well as overdiagnosis and overtreatment. In the course of our conversation Dr. Gunter repeatedly spoke over me, became defensive and condescending, and in general did a terrible job of listening to me or showing me respect. I am an educated and well-informed woman with clear goals for my patient care. Instead of hearing my preferences and committing to providing the type of care I desire, Dr. Gunter continually tried to present examples and information that would challenge my preferences. Overall my interaction with Dr. Gunter was disappointing, upsetting, and I would never consider seeing her again.
