Do not reccomend
Lacking in communication skills and comes off as rude and pushy about matters she is actually just confused about. I would not return or recommend her service. Seek out a ped who prioritizes respectfulness and kindness and who is very medically competent. They're out there!

I found her to be condescending and she didn't even attempt to answer my questions or address my concerns about my toddler. Definitely will not be seeing her again. However, office staff and nurses are excellent at this office!

Dr. Mahaffey was dismissive and shaming. When trying to figure out if my son had croup, an ear infection, or viral infection she indicated that I should "know" if my son had croup because "most parents should be able to recognize if their child is in distress," implying that I am somehow negligent because I cannot diagnose croup? I am not a physician and did not appreciate the implication that I am somehow negligent. My son had 2 recent negative Covid tests and is traumatized by the nose swab. When I declined an additional covid test (he has been around no new contacts and our entire family is vaccinated) she again implied I was being a disrespectful parent to the other children in his daycare class and even said "how would you feel if a parent in your class chose not to get a test." I take covid extremely seriously as I have high risk family members but am also not going to give my 18 month an invasive covid test every time he has a cough or runny nose. VERY disappointed and will be l

I do not recommend Dr. Mahaffey. I’ve frequently felt our visits to be rushed, she doesn’t listen well and responds in a way that’s patronizing, not really answering my question and not listening to understand. Most recently, we were 10 mins late to an appointment (a rarity, but we had a hold up with daycare pickup because life happens with 2 working parents), and despite her being 30 minutes behind her own schedule, she decided to cut our appointment even after our request to discuss some pressing concerns. I understand busy days, I have them myself, but she shows little empathy in a place where empathy should be first and foremost.

I would not recommend Dr. Mahaffey. We relocated and had to switch doctor. We went for a annual checkup for our toddler and it was extremely formal. She didn't try to interact with my son, smile or ask him questions. There were no toys to keep him interested while we talked. She tried to insist on medicine that the previous pediatrician offered to use only occasionally.
