Uncaring
Cold, insensitive, rude, and judgmental. I never went back. This man should not be working with patients.

Because there were no appointments available for an endoscopy, Scripps assign me to Dr Matthew Viernes, on February 27, 2020. He performed the endoscopy at the Scripps Hospital in Encinitas with NO RESULTS, no pictures, no diagnosis, no follow up visit, NOTHING. He was unpersonal, never spoke to me before or after the procedure, cold person not fitted to dealt with patients. Because my symptoms continued with more pain, I ended up seeking help with another group of Gastroenterologist to which immediately they ordered another Endoscopy and a Colonoscopy. Had both procedures done last Monday, October 19th, 2020, got the results, diagnosis, pictures and follow up visit plus treatment. The finding was alarming, thanks that I search for 2nd opinions. I Have a very enlarge Hiatal Hernia that if it goes any longer untreated or without a surgical procedure it could cost me my life. Dr. Viernes you don’t deserve a single star, find another job you don’t belong in the medical field.

Dr. Viernes has a standard, impersonal, assembly line medical practice that provides satisfactory care. My rating is based on my participation in the GEHA insurance plan that encourages participants to obtain a colonoscopy and claims that it will be of NO COST to GEHA providers. Dr. Viernes is a GEHA provider, but he uses anesthesiologists and a facility that are out of the GEHA network. This has cost me $650 so far. GEHA members BEWARE!

Believing I had only a minor problem went in to see Dr. Viernes for a colonoscopy. The diagnosis was of an extremely rare form of cancer. The Dr. immediately went to work scheduling appointments necessary to begin to conquer the problem. Thanks to him and nis staff, within a week I had two very important appointments. He was compassionate and knowledgeable. And he was always quick to return calls. Highly recommend.

Excellent Doctor who communicates well, has a sense of humor yet deals with medical issues seriously. Appointments have improved but front office staff isn't warm.
