He's wonderful!
This doctor completed my moms hip replacement surgery. She had quick recovery. The doctor had fantastic bedside manner. My dad is old and the doctor drew a simplified picture to help him understand. So very kind. 100% suggest him!

Fantastic Orthopedic Surgeon and Staff
Dr. Niesen is very knowledgeable, caring and forthcoming with info regarding individual options to give his patients their best possible quality of life. Pain and very limited mobility caused me severe isolation. My journey thru 4 joint replacements has given me a new outlook on life. The support I received from all involved at Reedsburg Area Medical Center was top notch.

Skilled orthopedic surgeon
Caring and compassionate from the time I met him. Explains options thoroughly. Once surgery is the option he explains the surgery and recovery so there are no surprises. The surgical outcomes have been excellent for my total knee replacement, total reverse shoulder replacement and hip bursa removal. I trust him implicitly.

Devastated!
Our first surgical appointment was with Dr. Niesen’s PA named Andy. Andy was compassionate, caring, and listened well. He was so impressed by my wife’s story and dedication that he set up our first consultation with Dr. Niesen. The day of our consult Dr. Niesen was late. He appeared to be quite distracted, uninspired, unprepared and not at all interested in my wife’s condition, or story. He told us to come back in a month to check her progress. A month later and similar situation. Dr. Niesen seemed more prepared, but there was still no connection, or comforting reassurance. We scheduled a surgical date and began preparing. Twenty seven days before my wife was supposed to have life altering surgery she called to submit paperwork to the doctor’s office. The staff were confused and said that they would call her back. Upon returning her call she was informed that Dr. Niesen was no longer a practicing surgeon at Prairie Ridge. No reason given, no explanation, just plain abandonment.

Great surgeon.
My hip had been bothering me for many months. Finally I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Niesen. My X-ray confirmed that my hip was basically bone-on-bone; and needed replacement. After a few months of thinking about the procedure, and doing some research I decided to go ahead with the replacement. After only 5 weeks I am astounded at how my new hip feels. It is totally pain free. And, I no longer have a limp. I can once again keep up with my wife and our three dogs as we walk the neighborhood. Dr. Niesen's knowledge, patience and ability to explain the procedure was outstanding. I'm glad I chose Prairie Ridge Health and Dr. Niesen. Thanks also has to be extended to the other staff members. Judy MacDonald was extremely helpful also. Thanks again to all of those involved. If I should ever need another replacement I know where I will be going.

Dr. Niesen repaired a meniscus retear for me. I had been living with pain for about a year and a half due to 2 other surgeons refusing to listen to me due to "no significant evidence" of a retear on my MRI. Dr. Neisen was the first to actually listen to what I had to say and was willing to perform a scope. And sure enough, there was a tear. Probably one of the kindest doctors I have ever met and would recommend him in a heartbeat! If I could give him more than 5 stars I would!

Dr Nielsen is a 5 star reconstructive surgeon. He took a leg that had been previously worked on twice by a surgeon no longer practicing here because of poor surgery skills and knowledge. I went through 2 years of therapy with a walker on a leg that would never get better due to the surgeon who had no idea how to repair it and also broke it during surgery and did not replace the parts. I went to see Dr Nielsen and he rebuilt my leg which is now working great! No more walker! I recently had him replace my other knee and had such a quick recovery it was unbelievable! I did not even need the full days of therapy! The difference is miraculous! I will never have anything done by another orthopedic surgeon unless it is Dr. Neisen. The care at Columbus Hospital was also excellent! The nursing staff were always right there when you needed care. The whole experience was wonderful! I highly recommend this doctor and staff. Sincerely, Jo Marie Maederer

Dr. Niesen was exemplary in the before and after care I received regarding my right hip replacement. He always took whatever time needed to answer any questions or concerns I had. My right hip has never felt better. On a side note the Columbus Community Hospital was a 5 Plus Stars hospital on patient care as well. Couldn't be happier!!

I recently had a Conformis full knee replacement completed by Dr Niesen. He is enthusiastic about advances in replacements and explains the procedure thoroughly. He even checked in at physical therapy a couple of times to see how I was doing. At six weeks I am walking unaided and going canoeing and bike riding. Hoping to return to ballroom dancing in two weeks. A great physical therapist sure adds to the success of the surgery.

I Love Dr. Niesen! I would highly recommend him! I had a broken arm that did not heal and he did surgery to fix it with a plate and screws. I am so thankful to have my arm back! I also had 2 knee replacements. The surgerys went perfectly. They have both healed perfectly and I look forward to many pain free years with my new knees! He Is a very caring and concerned doctor. And very skilled doctor! I was very impressed with the whole program at Prairie Ridge. Thank You Dr. Niesen!!

Ease in contacting him thru My Chart and personally answers your questions and concerns. Also, after 3 months they have a reunion of everyone who has had a joint replaced by him along with your coach. Excellent lunch and able to hear other patients comments.
