Unacceptable Professional Staff & Treatment
Several years ago, Dr. Hamill performed cataract surgery on both of my eyes. Everytime I have gone back for follow-up consultations, the wait has been between an hour and a half and three hours. On my last visit in November 2021, I waited for an hour before one of his staff had the courtesy to tell me that Dr. Hamill was running at least another hour or two behind and that I could wait or make another appointment. I had checked in @ the appointment time and his office had been notified that I had been waiting for an hour. I was visibly upset when his assistant or nurse had me seated and I expressed my frustration at, again, for at least the third time, I had had to wait, unattended, for what I considered to be more time than one normally waits to see a doctor. When I was seated, her attitude was one of arrogance and an absolute lack of care that his office had let me sit so long, knowing that I had yet another hour to see him. We mutually terminated the physician/patient relation

Dr. Hamill has performed multiple surgeries over the years and it has been an excellent experience each time. I have a very complicated eye after a tree limb injury as a child and Dr. Hamill is the only doctor I would trust to do the upcoming surgeries.

Before I saw Dr. Hamill I had undergone three failed surgeries at the hands of a surgeon not connected with Baylor. The surgeries had damaged the cornea. I lived with corneal edema for almost four months. I was lied to and was given the false hope that multiple eye drops would offer a cure. If a person stood in front of me, I could not tell if it was a man or a woman; I could only see rough shapes, and colors. I dwelled in a world of fog, anger, hopelessness, and depression. I thought that my life was over. A friend who lives in Waco said, “There is a doctor in Houston, Dr. Hamill, who works miracles.” Dr. Hamill replaced the cornea on March 13, 2019. I only expected to regain some vision, but about two months later I had 20/20. Dr. Marshall Bowes Hamill gave me back my eyesight and a new life.

Dr. Hamill has been excellent in restoring eyesight in my husband's eye. No complaints with the doctor at all. However, his is a teaching facility and you are subject to students performing routine procedures. They do not always give proper information. Worst of all is the wait time. Sometimes we've been there for 3 hours or more just waiting to see the doctor for a 5 minute review. Today was more of the same. We arrived 40 minutes early and it still didn't help. We waited for 2 1/2 hours and had to leave to make a work meeting We live 50 miles away so that was a 100 mile wasted trip! We had to reschedule only to be told we'd have to wait 13 days for another appointment.. in my opinion, not the best way to treat patients.

Dr. Marshall Bowes Hamill is an EXCELLENT surgeon, and helped me in a way I did not believe possible. After an eye injury in 1972, I lived in a mono world for 45 years with a very visible torn iris and 20-200 vision. I heard the same story from many doctors for decades - leave it alone.... But In 2017, Dr. Hamill repaired my iris and provided me a new lens implant. I now see 20-30, see again in a 3D world, and my eye looks almost completely normal. Thank you, Dr. Hamill!
