Dr. Marko Tomov, MD

After years of misdiagnosis, Dr. Tomov localized my pain to the SI joint and after trying everything from therapy to injections, we finally decided to move forward with a SI joint fusion. I felt almost immediate relief after a few days and now that I'm several months out can say I have 100% pain relief. Thank you!!!

I saw Dr. Tomov for ongoing back and leg issues that have bothered me for many years. After several other doctors, he finally explained what was going on and provided helpful nonoperative options for my pain, with surgery being a last resort.

I saw Dr. Tomov last June. He sent me to a physical therapist. After 3 weeks of therapy the therapist notified Dr. Tomov's office that it wasn't helping me. I waited to no avail to hear from his office. After 3 weeks I called them and they said they hadn't received any correspondence from the therapist. I went to the therapist and he said they were notified by him within 30 minutes of my last visit. The Dr. then prescribed an MRI. After the MRI I waited three weeks without hearing from their office so I called them again. They said they had not received the results and they would look into it. Seven months later I still haven't heard from him or his office. Would you want him to do surgery on your back?

First time, Dr Tomov acted confused as to why I was there (I was sent there for lower back pain). He was also confused why I was there the 2nd time after I was told to follow up with him 6 weeks after ablation. I had no choice (though I pushed back) but to go to him the 3rd time. He whined that he sees things like sciatica and my pain was on the side of mid-spine. But he did order an MRI at least. When I came back to review it, I bothered him by focusing on a huge cyst on my kidney that showed up on the MRI. He snarked, 'Can we focus on this?' (pointing to what he wanted to tell me.) I have since seen the MRI (I had to ask for it 3 times and it took 6 weeks to get into my hands). The radiologist noted something that Tomov didn't bother to mention to me, if he even read it or knew what it was. It was a clue to the pain I complained about to Tomov, that has since been diagnosed as pancreatic cancer (a death sentence that needed NO delays nor marginal doctors).

I had a very complicated surgical case due to a compression fracture made more difficult due to ankylosing spondylitis. He significantly over delivered in his promises in my situation and we were able to not only stabilize my fracture, but I was able to get significant improvement with my cervical kyphosis. I’m so thankful for the work that he did. He was fabulous at follow up and made sure to check on in on me multiple times, even on a Sunday afternoon. Would highly recommend him.

Dr. Tomov made it clear that unless a surgical knife was needed, he was not really interested in helping me with my thoracic and lumbar pain. I explained that I had MRI results showing moderate to severe facet joint degeneration with moderate foraminal narrowing. He reported that "he never looks at MRI results". He did do some x-rays which he interpreted as a straight spine "looking pretty good" for my age (70). Dr. Tomov may be an excellent surgeon but I will not be seeing him again.
