Beware
I have not been treated by Dr. Sophocles but just wanted to make others aware that an initial consultation with her is $1,250 and she does not take insurance even though other doctors in her practice do.

Always rushing
She was my doctor for 3 years, now that I moved to another state and have a new doctor I realize how she was always rushing not really listening to me and just trying to get another patient in. Money is what she is after not really interested on you as a person.

Cutting edge women's health practitioner
Dr. Sophocles has an outstanding practice, and she herself is a remarkable gynecologist. I have been a patient for over 10 years and I am continually amazed by the wide range of women's health services they provide. Dr. Sophocles is always bringing the best and newest services to patients. The front desk staff, nurses and doctors are all kind, efficient, and professional. The practice even has a licensed professional for laser hair removal. Anytime I have an urgent issue, I am seen immediately, often the same day. I have been treated for hormone replacement therapy and weight management in a comprehensive manner, which many practices do not provide. I can't say enough great things about Dr. Sophocles and her entire team. I am a very demanding patient and she exceeds expectations every time.

Absolutely fantastic!
I am 72 years old and over the years have been to many gynecological practices. I have never met a doctor like Dr. Sophocles. What an upbeat, friendly informative, lovely woman. I was so nervous, my whole drive over to Princeton. That all disappeared after I met Dr. Maria, Sophocles. I felt welcomed informed and comfortable with the doctor. She has a gift a very special gift when I left there I felt there were alternatives to my problem, and that would all would be OK. I have never felt this way before.

Thinks it's OK to insert IUD without anesthesia
Dr. Sophocles, who was not the doctor we scheduled with, inserted my daughter's IUD with no anesthesia. That should tell you everything you need to know. Terrible care.

Wouldn't Go Back
Dr. Sophocles was an hour and a half late to our appointment. Once she got in the room, we discussed my medical history and concerns I've been having. She then told me I could undress (she left the room) by which I'm pretty sure she went to see another patient and had me wait another 15 minutes. When she came back she was very quick and seemed to rush through things. Then, she scheduled a procedure for me (last minute) 3 days away and told me I could cancel if the problem resolved without worries. When I ended up canceling the surgery, she tried to bill me $200 for a cancelation fee. Luckily, I hadn't signed any surgery agreement. She also did not inform me of any cancelation policy. Moreover, she didn't explain any of the details of the surgery recovery time and I had to call twice to find out if I needed someone to drive me home from the hospital (which the answer was yes) and whether I needed to take off from work. Luckily, my medical problem did resolve by taking antibiotics.

Dr. Sophocles is kind and knowledgeable. After meeting with her I felt instant respect for her. I had a procedure done in her office and I scheduled it with Dr. Sophocles because I had trust in her expertise and years of experience. When I showed up feeling nervous about such procedure, I was informed the NP will perform it on me because they are training others in the office. The Dr. was in the room with us. The NP had questions and I felt like a number. I was very disappointed and felt surprised by this decision. Not sure why I wasn't asked first if this was okay with me since it is my body. The office seems to have its distractions and follow-up is disappointing. It takes a week for Dr. to get back to you if you have a question. All questions are sent by portal. I needed follow-up instructions and by the time I heard back, it was a week since my procedure.

Visit felt rushed. She was in and out the room all over the place. Had procedure, she was late. Lied about time signing on paperwork, I felt extremely uncomfortable. Book to many appointments at one time.

I had a very good experience meeting Dr. Sophacles. I felt my concerns were validated and she actually listened to me. She was quite busy but I am grateful for her time. She explained me my condition, the options I have and was very patient in answering all my questions.

my family Dr recommended her b/c I was looking for bio Identical hormones and was told she worked with compounding pharmacies. After sending me several texts and emails asking for the normal information *which I filled out, I waited for over an hour for my scheduled appointment. No one called me and I had so much trouble reaching a live person. It was worse than calling cable. I will not be going back to this place.

It doesn’t matter how good a doctor or practice is if it is impossible to get medical attention if you desperately need it. Dr. Sophocles and the rest of her practice puts no priority on urgent medical needs. This is fine if you just need an annual pelvic for birth control pills, but if you have a UTI, yeast infection or any other type of issue requiring immediate care, you will not even be able to speak with a nurse, much less book an appointment in less than six weeks. Your best bet is seeing a stranger at an urgent care center or hope it clears up on its own because you won’t see anyone at Maria Sophocles‘a office for these types of gynecological needs.

This has become the worst practice now in 2020, went for 12 noon appointment and waited 2 hours to be seen by doctor. This is pre scheduled appointment which was there for months, not professional staff to help or look after you when you visiting them. Not coming here again, and would recommend you look at other better practices in Princeton.

She kept recommending unnecessary procedures. My intuition and understanding of my health indicated her solution is not right; after consulting with other doctors proved that was unnecessary too. She is too busy and started to spend less time for each patient, and the scheduling/clinic organization is getting very messed up. I could wait for 1 hour with her only showing for 10 minutes or even no showing up.

I am a relatively new patient of Dr. Sophocles and following a few awkward and frustrating visits, have decided not to return. I found my interactions with her to be rushed and she appeared to be almost manic. I had a quick exam while she was bolting from one room to another and at my first meeting, she was pushing for me to start a serious medication usually prescribed for an illness I do not have. When I spoke to my primary, he advised to absolutely not take the medication, which I did not. Some of her comments where unprofessional and offensive. Her approach and manner seemed impulsive and made me uncomfortable.

She is the most professional, compassionate, qualified gynecologist I have ever went to. She has given me the upmost care. Extremely responsive. She knows the cutting edge technology as well as keeping solutions simple as possible. Even will use complementary medicine when necessary. My family was even impressed with the care that I received for a procedure at the hospital. She was very attentive to all aspects of my care. I highly recommend Dr Sopheceles

Had a horrible experience with Dr. Sophocles. She misdiagnosed me and I suffered for months because of it. She is ingenuous and non-professional, and has no business practicing medicine. Beware!
