Dr. Maria Betancourt, MD

I have been a patient of Dr. Betancourt for many years and have never, ever had an issue with her. Her office, however, is another matter. What I really dislike is being bombarded with phone calls from different numbers and text messages to confirm the same appointment. It is so bad that I have had to block her phone numbers. People live busy lives — no one has the time to respond to multiple calls about to confirm one appointment. One method of contact will do. You also have to confirm that you are seeing the doctor and not the NP in advance. I always finds at to be annoying.

The office was clean & the support staff was courteous, but I never got my check-up and didn't see a medical professional. I felt REALLY uncomfortable completing a form that required me to give my credit card information & would give authority to the MD office to submit charges to my card for up to $250 (without my specific permission for that charge & w/o my advance knowledge) if my insurance wouldn't cover all or part of the MD fees. The receptionist said it was office policy but I said that I just couldn't give anyone permssion to submit charges without my specific permission and without knowing what the charge is for. She was polite & kind, but said that since it was my first visit, they don't know me & I would not be seen unless I completed and signed the form. I said I didn't feel comfortable doing this & couldn't they see me this one time. (I was missing work to keep the appt.) I was told no. I asked for my documents back and left.

I had an appointment scheduled to see this physician recently. The receptionist (I don't know her name, I can only say that she was a fair skinned Spanish speaking woman) was extremely rude to not only me, but the other patient that was present at the time. She had a very unprofessional attitude, raised her voice, and spoke in a condescending manner to both the other patient and myself.After being talked to like a dog by the receptionist, I cancelled my appointment on the spot and left.

I chose this Dr. due to her experience, the proficiency in Spanish language and good reviews; but get what, her practice like many others in NY cares much about the money than patients issues. First thing they ask is for credicard to get co-pay upfront -ha- then they kind of proactive you do not wait long to see her, but after you see her (literally just for minutes) the results are given to you in a Payment Receipt OMG -if you care about your privacy NEVER GO THERE- Dr. never call you
