Telehealth
I made a telehealth appt because she accepted those; she didn't have to if she thought they were inappropriate. She was rudely dismissive from the get-go and said I would have to make an in-person appt. I had never seen a neurologist before so I tried to get something out of the appt by asking if she could tell me anything about the process of what she does and the face she made was as though I had asked her to perform a lewd act. She flat out refused to answer. Highly unpleasant experience.

As a healthcare professional myself, I know the importance of making that therapeutic alliance so that my patients trust me. I ensure that I create an open environment so that they can speak freely and make them feel like their voice in care decisions matter immensely. Dr. Halpern was cold and unapproachable from the start. Her tone and bodily language made me feel like I was wasting her time. Her responses clearly indicated that she was not engaging and listening to what I had to say about my migraine issues. I just reviewed her summary and there are components that are made up and things that I never said. Unfortunately I think the matter at hand is that Dr. Halpern is experiencing compassion fatigue and burnout. Her poor bedside manner is clearly impacting the quality of care to her patients. I hope Penn considers intervening.

Dr. Halpern, and I use that title lightly, is the most inconsiderate person I’ve met that actually call themselves a doctor. She is cold and uncaring and an insult to the great name of University of Penn. For a doctor who is dealing with patients with serious medical issues she is more of a threat than helpful. I came in with a diagnosis than clearly showed emergency care and she didn’t treat it at all. Which leaves me with no other decision but to look for better care elsewhere. I pray someone with authority looks into her treatment of patients. Very disrespectful woman.

I was able to see Dr. Halpern rather quickly after an MRI, and while my particular problem does not have a simple fix, she had the most insight of anyone I had seen up to that point in my journey. No issues with the visit or care.

Dr. Halpren is very attentive and I have found her staff to be the same. She has a broad range of experience, and is able to zero in on specific symptoms as she determines diagnosis.

Dr Halpern is basically competent. She lacks any personality and is almost standoffish. I could have dealt with these deficits but her policy regarding patients who call needing an appointment due to extreme pain is awful. Her scheduling staff is cold and uncaring. In my experience I contacted them on two different occasions after two sleepless nights and was given an appointment in 7 days! When I practically begged for an earlier time I was told it was not possible! I will never go there again!
