I have never written a bad provider review before, but people need to know about our experience. My husband and I took our son to Dr. Todd at the recommendation of my OB and saw him for newborn through 4-month check-up appointments. Being new parents, we did not know what to expect from a pediatrician so at first it seemed fine even though he wasn't very personable and seemed to not take much time with us. Now that I've seen a good pediatrician, I realize that there were big red flags from the beginning. For example, he never asked me anything about my pregnancy or the delivery (I was diagnosed with epilepsy during pregnancy, so would have been important for him to know). At his 4-month appointment, Dr. Todd seemed particularly rushed and didn't ask if we had anything we wanted to discuss. Just looked him over quickly and left. Once we got home he called my husband and told him that he didn't feel comfortable telling us in person, but that he had concerns that our son had signs of Down syndrome. We were completely shocked and taken off guard since no one at the hospital noticed anything, this was the first time Dr. Todd was bringing it up, and we had genetic testing done while I was pregnant that didn't indicate any genetic disorders. My husband let him know about the genetic testing and he asked that we send it over. We didn't receive any sort of response until 3 days later and it was just a message through the patient portal that said he was probably fine. No call, nothing. By this time we had looked into it ourselves and found that not only would it be extremely rare for no one to notice anything until he was already 4 months old but also that the genetic testing is 99.9% accurate AND our son does not have any downs features. I got back in touch with Dr. Todd to explain how upsetting the experience had been for us to find out over the phone and then not hear anything for days. Instead of being understanding and apologetic he quickly turned the situation back around on me and said that he hadn't done anything wrong and that I was overreacting. I asked him to cancel our next appointment and let him know we would seek care elsewhere. The next morning I had a letter in our patient portal letting us know that we had been banned from all Sandhills and Palmetto pediatrics clinics. I honestly cannot believe that someone who has dedicated their life's work to helping children can be so cold, unfeeling, and heartless. Thankfully we quickly found care at Carolina Pediatrics, and they have been absolutely wonderful. During our first appointment with our new pediatrician, she immediately noticed that my son favors looking to one side and saw that he has tension in his neck and shoulder and recommended physical therapy and consultation for a helmet since one side of his head was a bit flattened. When I told her about our previous experience, she was shocked. Everyone I've told has been shocked. I never thought that finding the right care for my child would be this difficult, but thankfully we landed in the right place.
