Very Poor Patient Care
My mother was diagnosed with chronic Afib resulting in active heart failure while vacationing out of state. In spite of being a patient with Dr. Shanmugan for years, he refused to schedule an appointment in advance of her return. After her return, he refused to schedule an appointment, using various unrelated tests as an excuse, including her annual mammogram. It took over 6 months, and then he simply referred her to the ER for hospital admission. He saw her once in the course of her hospital stay. She was to have a follow up appointment within two weeks, but each time she called she was either put on hold or had to leave a voice mail. When someone finally returned her call, three weeks later, they said he wanted to wait 6 more weeks - and still wouldn't just schedule the appointment, but told her to call back. She is almost out of her meds without a refill, and we cannot get anyone in the office to call back or provide a refill.

I have just started seeing Dr. Shanmugam. He was recommended by my PCP as my blood tests showed that I could have congestive heart failure. Dr. Shan is very thorough. Since it was my first appointment with him, the doctor ordered blood tests as well as an ECHO and use of a holter monitor. He actually called me today to relay the results of these tests and what his plan is. I was surprised that he called and not someone else in his office.

We’re my friends daughter and I not been able to remove her from his care while in-hospital, she would literally be dead. No exaggeration. Even tho my friend was ambulances to Cleveland Clinic it still was touch and go due to the physical harm caused by this M.D.

He is very approachable and well informed. I started going to him when I got out of Mercy Hospital after having an adverse reaction to chemotherapy. He has kept my heart going for the last seven years.
