My life is so much better now
Excellent and highly SKILLED physician and great personality! I had lower back pain and multiple years of PT. My PCP was not diligent enough to push for a MRI, and my health insurance denied it. Finally, I get the MRI done thru a different doctor and find out I had a Schwannoma(spinal tumor) in my lower spine. Doing research on surgeons I found Dr. M. and traveled to see him. His office and Andrew (his MA) are the best! My tumor was growing into my canal so it was a scary procedure. He made me feel so comfortable and safe prior to the procedure and after the surgery he was there too. I am back to walking, hiking and dancing as if the tumor was never there. I so recommend him to be your surgeon.

Second Opinion
I went to UCLA for a 2nd opinion regarding a spine surgery done elsewhere. Dr M was astute, attentive and thoughtful. My regret, I wish I had met with him before my surgery. If I need a future procedure, I’ll travel across the US to have him do the work.

I was a patient since 2018. I’ve seen 2 neurosurgeons in my state who refused to perform my surgery . I did my homework to save my life. Luckily I found him and I can say that I am very lucky to be in his care because he is the best doctor I’ve ever meet. I have to include Andrew his assistant. They are both an asset to UCLA. The best team in this country. They save my life. My heroes!!! I’m forever thankful

Dr. Macyszyn removed an intra-dural schwannoma (tumor) from my spinal cord December of 2018. He was the only surgeon I spoke to who was willing to do this without removing my lamina completely, which would have required spinal fusion. As I was only 26 years old at the time, the prospect of having screws in my spine for the rest of my life was daunting. As I was only 26, having to undergo a spinal tumor resection AT ALL was terrifying. From my initial consult with Dr. M, I felt immediately at ease. With a refined confidence that never flared into arrogance, he communicated in such a way that implied this impossibly difficult task was something he lived and breathed. He knew his capacity as a surgeon and my body's capacity to heal, and was committed to preventing me from unnecessarily invasive and complication-ridden alternatives. He is one of only a small handful of surgeons using such minimally-invasive tactics for spinal tumor resection. Moreover, he does these procedures - which a

Dr. Macyszyn and his team were easy to work with, starting with Jasmine. She helped my schedule my appointment, she was sweet and patient. Dr. Luke came with in with a smile and addressed all my concerns and provided a few options for treatment of my back pain and a helped make a plan of action for pain management in the future. I trust and value his sincere guidance given during my appointment. I am already following his suggestions. Thank you Dr. Luke for the time you spent with me and my daughter. Looking forward to an active future!

Dr Luke, quite literally, saved my quality of life. After three years of surgeries and PT, Dr. Luke performed an anterior/posterior interbody lumbar fusion. Two weeks later, I was walking a mile a day without any pain. Luke is not only a gifted surgeon but is one of those rare physicians who can explain technical concepts with simplicity. He is king and re-assuring. I cannot recommend Dr. Luke more highly. HE’S A TEN, TEN, TEN. —James LaRossa

Terrible experience. Don't waste your money. I went to Dr. Luke for a neck/shoulder injury, he spent 2 minutes talking to me, told me he couldn't read my MRI or body scan and suggested I see another doctor. I got no answers and wasted my money. They also didn't process my insurance and I was hit with a bill for $1,000 + for 2 minutes of his time.

Professional, caring, and thorough. My dad came in barely walking and Dr, Luke found the cause (a tumor on the T11 that had been misdiagnosed in Oxnard). The surgery was excellent and my dad is now walking again. This was a very good experience.

Dr. Macyszyn literally saved my sister's life and I can't thank him enough! My only regret is that I didn't meet him so that I could personally thank him. My sister's case was extremely dire, her Las Vegas Neurosurgeon had the wisdom to reach out to Dr. Macyszyn to see if he would take her case; my sister was then flown from Las Vegas to UCLA where the surgery was performed. The team that assisted are also wonderful! Thank God for people like you, with your wisdom, skillset, and kindness.

I am pain-free, after many months of debilitating back and leg pain, because Dr. Macyszyn performed miraculous surgery on my lumbar spine. To note, one neurosurgeon would not help me, and another neurosurgeon implied that I will have pain for the rest of my life but was gracious enough to refer me to Dr. Macyszyn, as he "could perform miracles." Well, he did perform a miracle on me. Please, if you are experiencing back/leg pain, and Dr. Macyszyn suggests surgery . . . DO IT!
