Dr. Luis Martinez probably saved my life! The federal guidelines say women over a certain age don't need mammograms. But he wants all of his women patients to have mammograms. I am age 82. He sent me for a mammogram at my local hospital. It came back suspicious, so after further studies and special types of imaging, they determined that I had an early stage of breast cancer. Fortunately, a lumpectomy got it all, and they stopped it from spreading to my armpit lymph nodes. My surgeon preserved my breast, and it looks pretty normal, just a little bit smaller, which is not unusual for some women to naturally have one breast smaller than another. I am relieved that the only treatment required is one pill a day for five years, which I tolerate quite well. Thank you, Dr. Martinez, for being a thorough physician.
