Great Surgeon
Dr Schechter preformed my vulvaplasty and breast augmentation last year. I am extremely happy with the results. He and his team are wonderful and cares about the individual.

I had a great experience
I had top surgery with Dr. Schechter August of 2022 and I have to say it honestly was a good experience. I have read a lot of reviews stating scheduling and communication issues but from what I know he also moved his office to another hospital around the beginning of 2022. The staff at this new location is amazing. They communicated with me not only through My Chart but also called to make sure I was aware of a change that was made with one of my appointments and always answered any questions I had regardless of how trivial they were. The surgical staff was also amazing. They were friendly and treated me with dignity and respect. They didn't talk over my head when they explained the procedure like other have done to me. They had even made arrangements, ahead of time, for me to stay the night if I didn't have a ride and had to drive myself. I personally had a great experience with Dr. Schechter and his staff. I have and will refer anyone who needs gender affirming surgery to him.

Excellent surgeon. I feel Dr. Schechter is meticulous in his approach to MtF penile inversion surgery. He is very serious and dedicated to his work. He can be "intense"at times, but he always takes his time with me and answers all my questions. I feel he is honest with me. He has even telephoned me at home to ask me about my condition when I thought I was having some complications (turns out I was actually fine). His staff is wonderful and I actually enjoy going to see them in their Morton Grove office. The only problem I had was with his medical insurance coordinator Christina. Her job performance in this position was very poor, but fortunately, she has moved onto other opportunities in life and is no longer affiliated with Dr. Schechter's office. Dr. Schechter and all his staff were always respectful to me as were all the nurses I had contact with post-op at Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago. These folks really seem to care about their patients. Highly recommend.

I had a consultation 7/2020 for surgery with Dr. Loren Schechter. I drove 500 miles for the consult. He told me at my consult that 1) because of my age he couldn't make me something usable (we both knew how old I was before I drove to Chicago), 2) refused to show me any photos of his work, 3) told me that I wouldn't really be able to understand all the complicated stuff he was telling me, 4) told me that he really doesn't do MLD the procedure that I was interested in, even though he states that he does it on his website, and most importantly, 5)misgendered me in my medical files in his physician health portal which contradicts all of my legal and financial records. I wasted valuable time and money to drive to Chicago to listen to that garbage. He pontificated about "gravity flow" when talking about my bladder (which he has no actual, medical knowledge of). He's condescending, doesn't do what he advertises and charges for a useless consultation.

I have never written a review for anything in my life but I strongly urge anyone interested in top surgery to look elsewhere. Unfortunately I am not exaggerating when I say that I spent over a year of my life battling with Dr. Schecter's office. My first consultation was in March of 2018 and to this day I have never received a phone call letting me know when I might be able to schedule surgery. I finally pursued surgery with another surgeon, Dr. Wolf in Detroit, MI, and had surgery last week. Please, please, please don't suffer through an already complicated process with a provider who simply doesn't care about you. My paperwork was lost, phone calls were never returned, consultations were rescheduled and I was misgendered frequently. During the rare occasion that I could get anyone to answer the phone, I was treated with extreme disrespect by Christina, who seems to have absolutely no training whatsoever in how to handle medically / emotionally sensitive circumstances.

We could not have been more happy with our experience with Dr. Schechter and his team. They accommodated my toddler during quarantine when she split her chin open, and handled her situation with exceptional kindness, safety, and professionalism. Highly recommend Dr. Schechter and his office team.

I had mtf bottom surgery with Dr. Schechter in October of 2015. It has taken me 5 years to come forward about this due to the depression I have had as a result of the trama he put me through. I was a young (17 years old) when I had the surgery in 2015 and very healthy, I am saying this because the issues that I went through should have never happened to someone as healthy as me. The surgery was supposed to take roughly 4 or 5 hours and it ended up taking over 10 hours. When I woke up from the surgery, I could tell that all of the medical staff including nurses and even my family were concerned by how long the surgery took. The next day, I started having extreme pain and I had to be put into emergency surgery for excessive pooling of internal bleeding that the doctor created by not adding enough blood drains. Through this surgery, I had necrosis (tissue death) on part of the surgical site because he poorly cauterized the source of the bleeding. As a result of his incompetence, my surgic

Caused me to lose my gender reassignment surgery due to cancelling my surgery without clear warning and blamed another surgeon... I will be turning 26 and losing my coverage, and now, I won't be able to get my surgery after spending over $2,000 in travel and surgery preparation (electrolysis). I called to get refunded for part of my losses, and I was turned down. His practice is very unethical and won't accept responsibility for their screw ups. ??

I had a complication with my gender-confirming surgery. He was unable to provide the proper information as to what happened. It took me 14 months to get a surgery date. His staff had an negtive additude and would not email only talk over phone.

Very good surgeon but dealing with the office staff and billing was one of the most frustrating, endless customer service experiences of my life. If you are travelling from out of town, find another practice with equally good medical skills but a better staff.

I have been to this office twice, regarding my gender confirmation surgery (consultation and to have drainage tubes removed). The office staff is always super friendly and will automatically put any nerves you might have at ease. Dr. Schechter himself is a quiet guy but very knowledgeable. If you're someone suffering from gender dysphoria and are looking for a surgeon, I'd recommend going here.

I greatly appreciate the care I received from Dr. Schechter and his whole staff. Dr. Schechter is very compassionate, provided good consultation, and applied his knowledge and experience to give me a great result. I was impressed as how he set expectations so that my results were understood. I am very happy with them. The medical staff at his office are kind and compassionate. I would highly recommend Dr. Schechter.

My husband, daughter and I had the best experience today. We were greeted by a very friendly receptionist. Dr. Schechter, and his medical staff were top notch. Dr. Schechter, has a wonderful bedside manner, and he gave us the best consultation for our daughter inquiring gender confirmation surgery and facial feminization surgery. We felt very welcome, and we are looking forward to having our daughters surgeries with Dr. Schechter and his surgical team. Thank you so much.

The consultation was great. The office is really nice and it's in a friendly area. To be honest, this is a small thing, but the fact that there is easy & free parking and that the office is not in a big high-rise makes it great for follow-up visits. That's hard to find in Chicago. Dr. Schechter's PA and assistant surgeon joined us. Dr. Schechter explained surgical options, answered questions, and went over different procedures. I had the chance to look at surgical photos and ask any questions.

I had a consultation with Dr. Schechter in late 2016. My biggest complaint is his office staff. Every single person I spoke to except for one lady (Tonya) was rude and cold. Dr. Schechter's bed side manner wasn't welcoming or comforting, but I am guessing that is just his personality. After dealing with his office staff not returning phone calls and not having answers once I finally called enough times I decided Dr. Schechter was not the surgeon for me. I will say Tonya was great!

After much heartache, anger, and emotional devastation caused by several complications. Dr. Schechter has my full confidence! Every day in hospital Dr. Schechter showed up. That is the direct opposite of what can be said for other physicians involved. After a year and one half, and multiple procedures. I know this to be a doctor who cares about his patients, their families, our results after procedures. Thank you Dr. Schechter!

My results are fine - not good, not horrible. If you are someone who likes to stay informed about your treatment, to know why a certain approach is preferred, or to just ask questions - this is not the doctor for you. In my experience, questions were treated as an annoyance, not part of standard patient care. The office manager is also VERY unpleasant. She's great up until you commit to scheduling then she is unhelpful & rude, at best. If I had to do it over, I would have chosen another doc.
