Excellent provider
Thorough, knowledgeable and clear. While the office is always busy, I am not rushed and have answers to my questions so that I understand. Also responsive to messages via the patient portal.

Knowledgeable but rushed
Dr. Kim is clearly highly qualified. But he has a lot of demand on his time and expertise which results in short visits with somewhat rushed answers. Waiting time to see him can be exhausting.

Excellent eye doctor
My mom had an eye emergency, went to ER & other eye doctor, never was definitively diagnosed, we also couldn’t get an appointment within a month from her previous retina specialist office, so PCP office suggested trying Mass Eye & Ear, then everything changed. Their staff was very helpful, found appointment at one of their several locations, Dr. Kim & all staff there were very professional and provided compassionate & excellent care, they listened, explained every step during exams, diagnosed the eye disease & answered our questions patiently. We felt very grateful & fortunate to have such top notch eye care team for mom eye problem, we cannot thank them enough.

Dr. Leo Kim: Best of the Best
Dr. Kim is a world renown retina specialist – indeed we are lucky to have him available to us in this country. If you have retina problems, you understand that you are flirting with a bunch of conditions that can cause blindness … unless you have expert care. I have had 2 laser surgeries, a more massive retina tear that required buckle surgery, and another retina surgery that fixed a hole that was dead center in my retina. A torn retina can cause bleeding inside the eye that reminds you of driving through a blizzard. The retinal hole made my right eye into a fun-house mirror. Both these conditions render your eye pretty much unusable. Fixing these conditions requires a surgeon with massive skills – this is not tonsilitis. He described the retinal hole surgery as being similar to separating a single sheet of Kleenex from a backing of sticky Scotch tape. For that, you need some serious skills. So, I see him a lot – and, yeah, it tasks a long time for each appointment.

Dr Kim listened to all my questions and concerns about treatment for my rare condition, Pseudo Xanthoma Elasticum (PXE). He worked WITH me to create a plan I felt very comfortable with. All the staff and assistants were just as amazing, caring for me as if I were family or their best friend.

Two hour delay to original appointment time, and rude receptionists. Leo was absolutely great though, polite, knowledgeable, and engaging. I suspect the issues are due to office administration, if so, it would benefit from much improvement.

Staff very friendly. Dr. Kim is a no nonsense easy going expert in his field!! The only MAJOR drawback - in my opinion it's a biggie- is the long wait times in the waiting room. I hope it will be somehow addressed.

I've been seeing Dr. Leo Kim since I suffered a retinal tear, followed by a retinal detachment, two years ago. Both his incredible surgical work and his acumen in informing me of the particulars of my case have been extraordinary. He's also remained highly invested and committed, taking a personal stake in my progress and outcomes. He performed an extremely complex and high risk surgery on Christmas Eve that ultimately marked the difference btw saving my retina and sight in that eye. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
