I have been a patient of Dr. Mattews since Feb 2024. My experience with her has been nothing short of excellent. She is empathic, professional, and most importantly efficient in her work and treatment. I have suffered from neuropathic pain for years and she was humble in listening to my story. I have never felt more confident in my pain management treatment from Dr. Mattews. She truly puts her patients first and I have never felt better in her medical approach to treating my condition. In addition, the office staff: Jamal, Shaquana, Neidy, and Joedi are all welcoming and accommodating every step of the way. I highly recommend her services and the entire team.

Caring and listens
She is kind and respectful and works with you. Never pushy and very encouraging at all stages of my treatment. I had pancreatitis and severe pain in my belly. She worked with my other doctors so I can be treated with 3 injections every year. She takes my concerns seriously and has always made herself available. She takes time with me. I am very appreciative to her for all her efforts

Pain free
She was unlike any doctor that I have seen. Myblast pain doctor had pushed so many pills on me, she has taken the time to get me off the pills that cause addiction. She really empowers me and is kind considerate and so respectful. After doing a round of injections I have hope of living a normal life. I was pain free for the first time in 12 years this week. I cannot thank her enough for showing me hope

Dr Matthews is certainly a bright woman. I saw her several years ago. She said there was nothing she could do for my neuropathic pain but I am sure she has helped many patients. Although my former review was correct and honest, I am replacing it with this one. This website doesn't appear to let you delete reviews.

Dr. Leena Mathew is incredible. Not only has she taken great care of my health, but also she is lovely to speak with at every appointment. It’s rare to find a doctor that combines such personal touches and care for a patient as a person with outstanding quality of medical care. I highly recommend becoming her patient! She's AWESOME!!!

My experience with Dr. Mathews was horrible. In the first visit, I was going over the different treatments I had tried, and her response was "there is nothing I can do for you; you have a chronic condition and there is nothing I can do"!! Having her say this made me feel despair, if she can’t help me then who can? Is my case hopeless? I burst crying like a child. It took some time working with my Pain Management therapist to overcome the effect of Dr. Mathews visit. After about 2 years, my therapist asked me to see Dr. Mathews and start again. When I did see her, guess what she told me? "There is nothing I can do for you". Again! Her visit deeply depressed me. Thankfully I don't suffer from a condition that would have caused me to harm myself (as in suicide) but people with chronic pain could be deeply depressed. If I say nothing and she says something like that to another more desperate and depressed patient and they harm themselves, I would never forgive myself. She’s the worst.

The columbia pain clinic is just wonderful. From the staff at the front desk to the medical assistants to the physicians, the experience was outstanding. The staff was warm and welcoming. My doctor was Dr Matthew. The way that she speaks and even her gestures are calming and soothing. She considers you as a human being and is very compassionate. I was to get an epidural in my cervical spine for severe neck pain. Dr Matthew explained all the options we could take and we opted for an epidural. I am VERY afraid of needles so the thought of having one going in my neck while I was on my stomach was terrifying. However, Dr Matthew was very reassuring and the experience was a positive one. In no time the epidural was gone. And even the same day I experienced relief and I haven’t been this pain free in years. I would recommend this pain clinic and especially Dr Matthew to anyone suffering from severe neck or back pain.

Dr. Mathew is amazing! We are so lucky to have found her. She listens to us, and involves my son in his own medical decisions. She explains things in a way that we both understand. We take the train in to see Dr. Mathew, and we will continue to travel to see her as we've seen other pain management drs near us and have not received the quality and care from them that Dr. Mathew can give us. The absolute best!

Very skilled at treatment (blood patches) for Spontaneous Intercranial Hypotension (CSF leak). Thoughtful throughout the process. Would carefully and rigorously weigh the risks and benefits when deliberating what made the most sense at each step in the recovery and treatment.

Dr. Mathew is a wonderful physician and very well suited to the field of pain management. She was able to diagnose my condition after four other physicians could not - because she actually listened to me. She was then able to devise a strategy to manage my pain without the need for opiates of any kind. She is intelligent and compassionate - a wonderful combination.

She is awesome. I have been debilitated with shoulder pain. She helped with it first but then helped me get my life back on track with her advice on nutrition and my general health. I was shocked that she spends more time with me then my general doctor and her help has changed my life. Her staff is so helpful and accommodating and the office is really pleasant.

I could not recommend Dr. Mathew at NYPH of Columbia University more. She is kind and generous of spirit and spends ample time learning about your health and needs before giving careful service. I have chronic joint pain from head to toe…I have been to other acupuncturists; the experience of acupuncture with Dr. Mathew has been life-changing for me…I have never felt so good!

Dr. Matthew is a GEM. She is VERY comprehensive in her evaluation, and DOES NOT rush you at all, during the appointment.. She sat with me and my partner and spoke in a language we could understand, without making us feel inadaquate in any way. She answered ALL of my questions, and put any fear that I had, aside. I DO NOT like to take any unnecessary medications, so I was VERY happy to be told that the 3 options that Dr. was suggesting, consisted of an injection instead of oral medications.

My mother has been treated by Dr. Mathew monthly since 2014 for chronic pain. Dr. Mathew has remained caring, engaging, and also takes her time during each visit. I have been a registered nurse for nearly a decade and have worked with many physicians in large academic medical institutions. Dr. Mathew is one of the most compassionate and brilliant physicians that I have come across. She is a true gem and I would refer her to anyone with chronic pain issues.

I have had chronic back pain for over 10 years. Nothing had given me relief until I saw Dr. Mathew. After only 1 acupuncture session, I knew I finally found something to relieve my pain. Dr. Mathew is so kind and caring in her treatment. Most doctors make you wait forever in the waiting room and then you are lucky if they spend 2 minutes with you. Her office staff always gets me right into the treatment room, and she spends as much time with me as I need!
