Such thorough exam, insight and work up. Great communicator. I am looking forward to feeling better in my body and know I will be in excellent hands in Dr Tan's care. While physical therapy has helped me feel a little bit better in my body, it can't fix the situation with my cervical spine. I feel comfortable with the explanation and timeline regarding my upcoming surgery. I'm thankful for my referral from my PCP to UCSF!

Wonderful doctor
Dr. Tan is awesome! He took great care of me. I have so much back and leg pain that I could barely walk. He did a minimally invasive surgery for me and now I lm able to walk again! Highly recommend.

Excellent Neurosurgeon with a Great Bedside Manner
I had suffered from spinal pain for over twenty-five years, and had seen many neurosurgeons when I was referred to Dr. Tan. During my first visit Dr. Tan was able to identify my problem and after a cervical spinal surgery the problem was completely resolved. Since that first visit I have seen Dr. Tan for lumbar spinal issues and those have also been resolved. I like that surgery is not his first option, but he will employ nerve blocks, epidural injections, and MRI testing before making his decision. He has a great sense of humor and warm bedside manner that evokes confidence and trust. Dr. Tan is by far the very best neurosurgeon I have ever seen! Without reservation, I recommend him to anyone who has spinal problems.

Dr. Tan is a wonderfully skilled surgeon
I have had progressive neuromuscular (NM) issues after falling off 6' ladder in 2017. Dr. Tan was able to diagnose underlying cervical stenosis in 2021, when more than a dozen MDs at three medical establishments before him insisted that my chronic degenerative spine had little to do with my ongoing NM issues. His multi-level laminectomies, laminoplasties & foraminotomies relieved most of my atypical symptoms, including dysphagia, dysphonia, shortness of breath, hand tremors, and leg weakness. I am thankful for Dr. Tan's mobility-preserving procedure that has restored much quality of life. Surgical outcome was a success, after 4+ years of failed conservative management that might have resulted in unforeseen nerve damage.

Dr. Tan is the Man!
Back in 2019 Dr. Tan performed a major surgery on my neck to fix problems I was having caused by severe cervical stenosis. He performed a Laminectomy at 2 levels, Laminoplasty at 3 levels and a Foraminotomy at C6. The surgery was a complete success and Dr. Tan was pleasant and business-like throughout the entire process. Dr. Tan literally saved my life and I can recommend him highly.

Dr. Tan is a fantastic doctor! He is not only very patient in listening to my problems, but also very thorough in his exam. He explained all the findings on my images and told me how they are related to my symptoms. He clearly laid out all my options and also gave me chance to ask questions. Highly recommended!
