My good fortune was choosing this doctor
Everything about Dr. Lee Carasco and his staff speaks of competence, care and success -- from scheduling an appointment, to the initial consultation and diagnosis, then the procedure and finally the follow-up visits. I sought him for a second opinion after the first oral surgeon said I needed a major operation at an uncertain date in the future. I got my appointment with Dr. Carasco quickly. He said I needed outpatient surgery and that he could do this the next week. The surgery was successful except for some swelling under my chin, which he attended to with an antibiotic (and home treatment with warm compresses). Now four weeks after the surgery, the swelling is gone, I'm eating normally and there is no jaw, tooth or ear pain, which had plagued me beforehand. Every visit or procedure involved Dr. Carrasco and two other staffers, all of whom explained everything in terms I could understand and gave me their undivided attention. I would recommend this doctor without reservation.

Technically excellent, poor otherwise
Dr. Carrasco is an excellent surgeon, but he does not seem to care about patients after surgery (this attitude seems to carry to the rest of his staff). You are told by him and Penn to reach out if certain issues occur post-surgery, but when you reach out to his team about these issues you will not hear back, will be given conflicting information, and will generally be treated as if you are a bother to him. Following up does nothing, and you are left without adequate care and information.

Finally
After numerous consultations, x-rays, Dr visits for months, Dr Carrasco knew exactly the course of treatment for me. He considered pre existing health conditions. Dr Carrasco has a very pleasant caring personality. He understood all I had been through. I felt cared for and trusted this Dr. I would not hesitate to refer my closest friend to him.

Dr. Carrasco is a good enough oral surgeon. However, he is totally unresponsive to his patients' concerns. I left 5 messages for him and he never responded to any of them. He extracted one of my teeth. Because I continued to bleed for more than 10 days, I left a message for him to contact me. I was told he was given my message, but he never responded. In fact, on the Penn Medicine Portal he states he will not respond to patient queries. Perhaps the most unprofessional and least caring health provider I have ever known.

We drove 15 hours one way. I have bone missing in my upper jaw on both sides. I was told they don't do anything for this. I'm suffering with infection coming in my mouth since a root canal in July 2017. And I was told to use the netty pot. He didn't even barely check my mouth. Checked a gland and the gum tissue where I had a tooth pulled. I should have went with my gut on this as someone else told me this is the place to go.

We drove 15 hours one way in hopes of getting help. I've had infection coming in my mouth for 14 months now after a root canal. This wasn't the place for me. I was told the bone missing in my jaw he does nothing for it. The infection has to be coming from somewhere. High ratings mean nothing to me anymore.

Scheduling with Dr Carrasco is very difficult. Minimum 2 months for existing patients. There's always a wait when you arrive. He's friendly and realistic. But he will not try to justify surgery to your insurance. I asked him to resubmit to my insurance, he said he'd talk to my orthodontist about it, and never did. I called the office 3 separate times to make this connection happen. He first gave me an out of pocket estimate then increased it by 3x about 6 months later. Very disappointed.

After consulting with 2 other oral maxillofacial surgeons for Wisdom tooth extraction with complications, we met Dr. Carrasco and knew right away he was the guy. He took amazing care of my daughter was calm and reassuring and very tuned in to her fears etc. I would highly highly recommend him he did an amazing job and made the entire experience bearable for my daughter. The staff at Radnor Center were incredible and very accommodating too. Thanks Dr. Carrasco

Dr. Carrasco informs the patient about everything as it happens. I am a very anxious patient with other health complications he was really helpful to me. He made me feel calmer and safe. Nothing can mitigate the pain of oral surgery, but he does what he can. I would--and have--recommend him to anyone, especially if they have other complicating factors. I had four surgeries with him in two years.
