Unprofessional and Lacking Compassion
I recently saw Dr. Laura Byrnes for my toddler, who had mild symptoms for a few days until his condition worsened overnight. From the start, Dr. Byrnes’s demeanor was unwelcoming. While listening to my son’s breathing, she asked me questions, but then told me to “please be quiet” as I responded, making it clear she shouldn’t have asked questions while trying to examine my son. When my son was upset by the toe oximeter, Dr. Byrnes left the room, letting the door slam, which only added to his distress. Upon returning, she said, “Can you calm down, can you him down?”—a remark that felt insensitive and unhelpful as I was already doing my best to soothe him.Overall, Dr. Byrnes lacked the empathy, patience, and professionalism I expect from a pediatrician. Medical providers should be attentive and compassionate, especially with young children and worried parents. I would not recommend her, and she may benefit from additional training on bedside manner.

My daughters checkup with her went horrible, she was very dismissive and condescending. She told me to stop breastfeeding my 4 month old baby at night and when I asked why she appeared irritated. I have never met a horrible pediatrician like her.

Horrible condescending – Apr 07, 2021

I have no words to tell you how my child’s visit went. Her bedside manner is downright horrible and rude. Her tone and body language perceives to patients as a doctor who doesn’t care, you’re wasting their time, and a lack of immediacy with answers like, “ok”, “that’s stupid”, etc. as professionals when something doesn’t make sense to a teacher or doctor or any community helper, it’s our duty to collaborate and communicate with specialist or others involved in a child’s care plan. Instead I was told that my specialist wasn’t one on the recommendation list. The questions she asked And my response given prompted a “hmm that’s odd, never heard that before, are you sure, etc”. Lack of trust and her condescending tone can easily make any parent (new or old) feel like incompetent caregivers.

She completed my daughter’s checkup but her lack of bedside manner makes one wonder why she’s a pediatrician.
