Best doctor visit
I’m almost afraid to leave this review and have her become even busier. Absolutely the best doctor’s visit experience. She is so passionate about her work and so knowledgeable with the best bed side manners. I’m so glad I found her. I would highly recommend her to my friends and family. Absolutely the coolest doctor human I have come across.

Dr Altom was recommended to me by 2 of my fellow church members and I can see why they recommended her.She is awesome! I recently had a sigmoid colectomy done by Dr Altom. She was very informative and took alot of time explaining my surgery (what to expect, potential problems, etc). I felt very informed and I could tell she felt very confident in her ability to do this surgery which put me at ease. I had a very successful surgery with very little pain and NO complications. Her staff was great as well. Her assistant Melissa (can't recall if she is a NP or PA) was great as well.I have already recommended Dr Altom to several people and will continue to do so. Being in the medical field myself, I tend to look more closely at things, but I have nothing but positive things to say about Dr Altom!!!!!

I thought Dr Altam was very capable and confident. Explained things well on my first visit. After the MRI I asked for the results before proceeding to next surgery. I guess she was too busy to forward until the day before. I am now waiting for the last 5 weeks to see results in writing from second procedure. I was still under anesthesia after procedure and all I heard from results was No cancer, Surgery is recommended This is not acceptable.

Dr. Altom was nearly an hour late for our appointment even though I was the only person in the waiting room, and never even acknowledged it. She performed a minor procedure but never followed up. Her office then billed me at nearly $5k/hr for the 15 minutes she was in the same room as me. I regret seeing her and would find another doctor if at all possible.

I really trusted her with my brother William Dewey High. I have not heard from her or her office since he has been back at Rex Hospital. First Surgery 9-11-2019 was given a temp ostomy bag. 1 week later he had an evisceration of his bowels, causing emergency surgery that did nothing but replace the Ostomy bag. Five days later it started to do the same thing (evisceration of his bowels) this was his 3rd and final surgery, where she decided to reverse his bowels back to normal within a period of 3 weeks. After the third and final emergency surgery my brother Dewey High has gone downhill and is now heading to Hospice care. I wished we would have waited longer for the first surgery. Now i know if we did, he would live longer. the first surgery Dr. Altom stated "we have removed all the cancer, lymph nodes in the area and the labs state that cancer cells were dead. He no longer had cancer. Why the bag at all until the lab reports came out. I lot of questions for her to answer. Stephen High

Dr. Altom did my surgery on July 1st. I had a large polyp removed and 6 inches of my intestines. She is a great surgeon and my pain was minimal. The recovery time has been fast. I highly recommend her and her staff.

I recommend Dr. Altom to anyone who needs surgery. From initially meeting her and the staff in office to having surgery at REX hospital. Dr. Altom explained my colon issues to the T with diagrams and information I actually understood, and to the actual process for surgery. She has a great patient interaction and care that makes you feel comfortable with going into surgery. The surgical office and REX were truly amazing! I recommend Dr. Altom for any general surgery!

While Dr. Altom's partner Dr. Strouch was my primary surgeon during my surgery in November 2016, Dr. Altom ably assisted both during the surgery and post-surgery. I felt very comfortable with Dr. Altom's care and advice, and she was both very professional and empathetic. I would trust Dr. Altom completely as a surgeon and would highly recommend her. The team of Dr. Strouch, Dr. Altom, and Melissa Lunsford, Nurse Practitioner, in my case, were absolutely top notch.

Dr. Altom is one of the nicest surgeons (and people in general) that I have ever met. As someone who has had over 20 surgeries for Crohn's Disease, I had many surgeons over the years. At my first appointment, she spent over an hour with me. I have the upmost faith and confidence in her! Would highly recommend!

Dr. Altom is a great doctor, very compassionate and a great communicator. She has explained the process of treatment and proper care for my specific issues very clear. She has a great "bed side manner" that I do not see in other doctors. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Altom for anyone needing her care.

While in emergency department at Ochsner, April 2016, Dr. Altom was called in at 1 a.m. and arrived quickly. She examined me and reached a diagnose at once. She was very professional and my wife and I were quite impressed. I would definitely rely upon her for future colon & rectal issues.
