RUN don't walk from this surgeon
Achilles repair over a year ago and STILL dealing with pain, not able to do activity. USED to run 4 to 5 times a week. Now have no ankle joint movement, joint locked, never listened when I expressed concerns have caused HUGE long term problems. PLEASE get other opinions and consider other surgeons before going to him. They left stitches in my heel too after surgery and the stitch kept curling back into my heel in the boot and they didn't listen to that either. HORRIBLE experience, I'd run from this surgeon, not walk, crawl whatever you need to do to get away .

Several things were went wrong. I never received a time to be at the surgical center and had to have the on-call doctor figure it out for me the night before my surgery. I never saw the Doctor post surgery as he cancelled on me (I was having issues with pain and movement) and I only got to see him 3 months later. I did see an assistant who took out my stitches by digging into my foot with scissor and tweezers, it was pretty horrible. Then I saw a NP that kept telling me my foot pain was from arthritis (which was untrue) and not the surgery, 6 weeks out from surgery. That one time I did see the doctor he gave me a cortisone shot in my foot without any topical lidocaine (which he said he would give me) and it was horribly painful. He did not care at all. Although my foot is healing with lots of PT, my toe is not bending correctly and seems crooked. I will have to see another foot specialist. Overall this was a bad experience and I would not recommend this doctor.

Ankle Surgery while on vacation in St. Miguel.
Dr. Hofmann saw me the next day after my return from our vacation where the accident happened and scheduled me for his last surgery 4 days later, because of the weekend. He has been so kind, and compassionate to me and his exceptional staff as well. His PA herself can't even find the incisions on either side of my ankle. Both sides had been broken.I would recommend Dr. Hofmann to anyone and he is only 50 minutes away from where I live. But we are so lucky to live so close to Boston with the best health care in the country.Dr. Hofmann does meticulous surgery. Don't think twice about going to him.

So grateful to have found him!
I have been suffering for years due to another orthopedic doctor ignoring my pain. One visit with Dr. Hofmann and I knew I was going to be okay. I had a full ankle replacement with major tendon repair.

Outstanding
Dr Hoffman and his staff were outstanding. Kind, accommodating, flexible to my limitations when getting the required imaging in their office. Everyone I interacted with was patient and respectful. Dr Hoffman inspired confidence through both his bedside manner and his ability to articulate his interpretation of my history, exam, and imaging findings in language I could easily follow. Lastly, I will disclose I’m also an attending physician but at a different hospital (MGH) — my expectations are probably a little higher than most. Dr Hoffman and his crew met and exceeded those expectations from both a personal and professional standpoint. He also has Saturday clinic once a month. That alone should tell you everything you need to know about how much he values making time to see new and follow up patients. He was recommended to me by a colleague and I’m glad I took that recommendation. Thank you.

Dr. Hofman and his team deserve 6 Stars!
I am recovering from bunion and hammer toe surgery done a week ago. When Dr. Hofman phoned me to see how I was doing, I began by asking an important question: 'Are you sure you did the surgery'. I have had no pain and only mild discomfort from time to time. His team has gotten back to me with all questions that have arisen. I look forward to my follow up visit to have the stitches taken out later this week and I really look forward to my appointment mid January when I can stop wearing the air cast boot! When I have needed to adjust appointment times, the staff have been able to easily make these changes. They also followed up on making a referral to PT so that PT can begin as soon as I am cleared for that. I work in healthcare and I am a 'fussy customer'. Dr. Hofman and his team get my praise and gratitude.

The Best Foot Surgeon in the Boston Area!
I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience working with Dr. Hofmann and his team following my serious calcaneus fracture last spring. I consulted with two other surgeons (from top-ranking healthcare systems) prior to Dr. H and learned that, even in Boston, it is hard to find a surgeon who is both skilled and kind. Once I met with Dr. H, I knew he fit the bill. He and his team are experienced and compassionate, and my surgery and recovery have been seamless. Highly recommend!

Excellent Surgeon, and personable!
Dr Hofmann is a talented and competent surgeon who performed surgery on my Achilles Tendon and ankle thus resolving a long standing issue whereby I spent 1.5 years on and off a knee rover with significant limitations on my quality of life. I am 4 months post op and functioning normally and have regained my quality of life with zero complications. Very satisfied. I would go to no one else for future issues.

Stay away
I went to Dr. Hofmann with a small Morton’s neuroma. After waiting an hour to see him, he reviewed my MRI and assured me it was a simple surgery: remove the damaged portion of the nerve, and I’d be back to normal activity in six weeks. However, after the surgery, I lost feeling in two of my toes and now have constant pain from a cut nerve. A follow-up MRI revealed that the portion of my foot that had no previous issues now has severe nerve damage. He runs a patient 'puppy mill.' On my second visit, I waited two hours to see him. He takes no responsibility for his work and has left me unable to enjoy simple walks or participate in any sports. My life has been forever changed. After consulting with many other surgeons, I was informed that the gold standard treatment for Morton’s neuroma is cryotherapy, which doesn’t require surgery—and guess who wouldn’t have been able to bill for that?Surgeons only get paid to cut! Dr. Hofmann has essentially ruined my life.

I underwent bunion surgery from Dr. Hofmann in July. The minimally invasive surgery was easier than I expected. I can't believe how much better my foot looks! I just need to schedule surgery for the other foot. I definitely recommend DR. Hofmann!

Dr. Hoffmann inspired confidence
Dr. Hoffmann's office practice is busy; I have to believe that is because of his reputation for expertise in his specialty practice; I came to him to assess a problem of my foot and toes. He explained to me, after reading my xrays and taking a history, what was needed. I am now scheduled for surgery in a few months. His administrator made the whole process go easily.

Ankle and foot surgery
Dr. Hofmann is a surgeon that I would highly recommend. He and his entire staff made me feel comfortable and he answered all my questions and concerns. He called me the morning after surgery to follow up which was awesome. He is down to earth and it's incredible how he accomplished so much at a fairly young age. A highly respected surgeon at NEBH is something you should be very proud of. Thank you again for improving my life. I look forward to hiking with my wife and 2 dogs in NH soon. Dom
