Dr. Krystal Smith, DO

Dr. Smith spotted a tiny abnormality in my mammogram that sure enough turned out to be cancer. Because it was caught and treated so early I have an excellent prognosis. She also has a wonderful gentle manner. Immediately after a mammogram she reads it and lets you know whether it is clear or not - no waiting! Mammograms aren't ever going to be a fun time but she and her staff treat patients with so much respect that I don't mind going. This is also my first experience with a DO - I was reluctant to use her at the outset because she isn't an MD but no more.

Before seeing Dr. Smith, after every mamo, the radiologist would call me back for a second look at my left breast. After a second review, I would be told everything looks okay. This has been going on for years. However, as a new patient to Dr. Smith, at my annual mamo, when she took a second look, she said she needed to biopsy the area and put a clip in. I wondered why she needed to do this, when all other radiologists in the past said I was okay. I discussed this with her. Dr. Smith stated she saw something different. I was suspicious but didn't want to take a chance. I wonder if the biopsy and clip were unnecessary and for profit. In the end, extra those extra procedures, she declared my left breast was fine! I told my PCP, and she said she had other patients who have gone to Dr. Smith and had clips put in. . . . hmmm. Is she extra precautious? I guess I will never know. But it made me suspicious so I go somewhere else now. And the last mamo I had was fine.
