Dr. Kevin Sumida, MD

Seeing Dr. Sumida at OrthoVirginia at the VHC location was one of the best medical visits I've had. I was able to get an appointment within just a few days. I filled out the pre-check-in registration forms online so checking in for my appointment was easy. The whole appointment was extremely efficient and I was in and out within a half an hour. I was called back to the examination room after only waiting about 3 minutes. An assistant immediately took me for x-rays. After x-rays, Dr. Sumadi saw me right away. He carefully examined me, discussed my issues and my current medications and recommended a treatment plan. All of the office staff were friendly and pleasant. I plan to continue seeing Dr. Sumadi and was extremely impressed with the whole experience.

I've come to Sumida on various occasions for possible fractures, tendonitis, and arthritis for myself, my children, and my parents. He listens, takes his time to explain the options, and we all trust his diagnosis/judgement. He's not quick to suggest to invasive procedures, but when he does, we know it's serious. Great bedside manners. Almost like a friend, but y'know, still a doctor and obviously very skilled at what he does.

I have been seeing Dr. Sumida for many years and I came to him for a second opinion on something my podiatrist told me— his concerns were spot on. His diagnosis was different than the podiatrist’s and he referred me to another specialist. I should have come to him first. :-)

Dr. Sumida and his team were very helpful despite my being late they were very accommodating and everyone from his front office staff to Dr. Sumida himself his entire team was great. I’m grateful to his team and him for their help and excellent service during my visit for my fractured foot today.

Quickly assessed that I needed the help of another specialist. Personally arranged an appointment with that doctor on very short notice. Knowledgeable, decisive, gets things done. In my brief experience, very impressive.

Dr. Sumida has been taking care of me for the past three to four years and I would not have anyone else prescribe or evaluate my leg but him.

I had an excruciatingly painful procedure done by Dr Sunida’s office. I endured it because if his gentle grace and careful handling. His bedside manner was excellent and caring. He knows what he is doing and has good hands. Thank you!

My problem was not one that needs surgery, so Dr. Sumida seemed uninterested in figuring out what was wrong. He did not do a full exam, but the scribe wrote in my chart that he did (so it will be billed that way). I was a new patient, he spent less than 10 minutes with me, and asked me hardly any questions once it was clear that I didn't need a hip replacement. He advertises as a sports medicine doctor, but his attitude suggested he's only interested in sports injuries that need surgery. His assistant asked me my pain level and specified "right now." No one asked me to rate my worst pain, or to explain what made it better or worse.

Excellent process from consult, through prep and then surgery and recovery. Have now had 4 surgeries with Dr Sumida and each has been a positive experience and I'm healthier and better as a result. Plus his staff is wonderful.

He was kind. Efficient. Office clean Great bedside mannner. Would see him again for any orthopedic problems I may have.

Dr Sumida was very kind to me as I saw him on a walk in basis with a problem of recent surgery in my back. He very clearly explained that he did not have any expertise in back issues. He ordered an xray and read it with me. This answered my question and I thank him.

In short order Dr. Sumida was able to correctly diagnose my knee injury. His estimate was then 100% confirmed by a FUP MRI. I knew quickly what my limitations and options were to treat my injury. I have full faith and confidence in Dr. Sumida.

Everything was very rushed! Why bother schedule an appointment when you don't have time for patient. I wanted to explain more what happened. But he was obviously in a rush! No time for me to ask questions. Then He just left!!

Thorough and kind! The whole team is fantastic and I can’t imagine taking my little athlete any where else!

Filling out the short questionnaires online was simple and made check in a breeze. The wait was short and the staff, both administrative and medical, were very helpful, easy to work with and knowledgeable. Dr. Sumida listened to my concerns and needs and answered all of my questions. He made sure that I have what I need to take care of my injury during and upcoming trip. I could not have asked for a better outcome. Thank you!
