I didn't know he retired in December 2019....but well deserved. Great Ortho Surgeon, will be missed.

I have been a patient of Dr Caldwell since early 1990’s for various problems. He is very knowledgeable, professional and friendly. He puts patients at ease right away. I’ve often told him I wish he was my family Dr.??

Rarely does a Dr. take the time to explain as thoroughly the process, and listen to patients. I had successful minor knee surgery 5 years ago, and am about to have the other knee scoped in 3 weeks. I have full confidence.

Best overall orthopedic surgeon in the Charleston area. His expertise, knowledge, accuracy, staff, and scheduling appointments, are excellent. Dr. Caldwell's bedside manner has consistently been great over the years, he has repaired my knee and rotator cuff, great results.

Dr. Caldwell is a highly skilled and experienced physician who relates well with his patients. I have seen him for two rotator cuff injuries over the past four years- one resolved through physical therapy, and one through very recent surgery. He is very patient and thorough in explaining diagnoses and treatment options, and recommends surgery only as last resort. His staff (PA, nurses, and office assistants) are excellent.

Thoroughly explains all of your treatment options and does not PUSH surgery on you. Takes the time to make sure you understand your options and the pros/cons of each. Makes sure you ask any questions and express any concerns you might have so that you are comfortable with whatever decision you come to. Amazing bedside manner and down-to-earth guy. I cannot day enough good things about Dr. Caldwell. I would never consider any other doctor when it comes to my knees.

Dr. Caldwell is one of the most personable doctors I’ve seen. I tore my meniscus working out. I felt like I was talking with an old friend and nothing was rushed. He said that at this point he felt it was a very minor tear and gave me a conservative treatment plan with home care. He also didn’t think an x-ray was necessary at this point. Turns out he was right, the symptoms completely resolved and have been so for years. Sometimes a great doctor knows when to do nothing. Appreciated!

Dr Caldwell performed surgery on my shoulder over 20 years ago I am extremely active and still place heavy stress on the surgery site, surfing, paddle surfing ,mountain biking and tennis. The range of motion and strength remain amazingly close to post surgery results from many years ago. I never had a chance to thank him for it so I'll do it here! Rating your experience is important but nothing compares to actual procedure results and quality of life down the road. Thank you!

I feel Dr. Caldwell is an unprofessional Dr, who speaks with patients in a rushed and condescending manner. If your a Worker’s Compensation patient, be very aware that your employer’s Worker’s Compensation Insurance administor selected this Dr for a reason! To provide you substandard care and chart notes in the best interest of the Worker’s Compensation provider (in my opinion). So be knowledgeable and watch him and his staff closely and request a 2nd opinion if you feel unsatisfied!

Unfortunately my response to Dr. Caldwell is the same. He has to learn to listen. He assumes everyone acts or reacts the same to specific treatment. And can be stubborn to individual. I would not recommend him to anyone until he improve in these areas.

My recent visit with Dr. Caldwell left me feeling unheard. Dr. Caldwell dismissed my concerns about pain and future mobility of my shoulder. He spent a total of 1 minute listening and then told me to make another appointment, then walked away. I was very disappointed in his lack of empathy.
