Dr. Kelly Carson, MD

After leaving previous gastro, so pleased to find a doctor who listens and explains and follows up. Great options prescribed. Not somebody who just wants to prescribe more and more medicine!!

Dr. Carson has been personable, thorough, unrushed, and exhibited genuine concern for my outcomes. I’ve been completely comfortable with her doing 2 procedures for/on me and look forward to being under her care for years to come.

Dr. Carson was the only physician who met with me virtually before it became the standard during covid. I had significant gallbladder problems and I was scared about what I was going to do if I needed surgery in the midst of the covid crisis. She went above and beyond what she needed to do.

…not a great listener and not compassionate at all. She is extremely intelligent, well read, up-to-date, skilled and an expert. This is all VERY important and may be enough for some patients. As a nurse, I wanted more. I wanted a little empathy and personality and connection. And I wanted less ego, judgment, and more kindness. I ended up changing doctors.

I highly recommend Dr Carson. During the initial office visit, she took time to get to know me, my medical history and issues as well as explained various medications and procedures. She also did an endoscopy and colonoscopy. Again, great job by her and her team. I had quite a few polyps that we hard to find and remove and she got them. Very professional and caring and took time to go through procedure and post procedure instructions. I felt like I was in in good hands with a very knowledgeable, seasoned and genuine medical professional.

I am both an older adult and a retired healthcare professional. I saw Dr Carson two times in the past two years. My colonoscopy was entirely painless ( and that has not always been the case for me with other providers). She discovered a very small polyp that I feel could have easily been missed if the doctor was not as observant or if they rushed the exam. The other was a procedure I was uneasy about. She took her time and put me at ease, as she discussed all aspects of what would occur and tried to make it as painless as possible. I cannot emphasize enough how appreciative I was and still am the she was my physician. I recommend her not only to my friends but my own adult children. I firmly believe she is the best of the best in her chosen field. I am grateful to have found her!

Dr. Carson seems to be a good doctor, but her office staff is unresponsive to requests by patient portal and to questions by phone message. She has a medical assistant rather than a nurse handle medical calls; this person is not advanced enough in her training to handle medical questions from patients, and the information she conveys from the doctor is insufficient. It is very difficult to talk to the doctor herself unless you pay for another appointment. It also does not appear that the doctor is getting messages from the portal because she does not answer them. This is by far and away the worst experience I've had with a doctor's practice.

Dr. Carson is my gastroenterologist and I have had many visits with her and she has performed a few cycles of scheduled procedures. She is tops! I had been with one other Atlanta-area Gastro and that was fine until I developed some specific issues. I realized that I was going to have to trade up to a doctor who was info-centric and forthcoming and ready to deal with any and all of my questions and take all the time needed with me. It was the best move I made for my gut health. She is precise, thorough and caring. I highly recommend her.

I met with Dr. Carson for a virtual appointment and it was a wonderful experience. She's friendly, knowledgable and empathetic. I will certainly be back if I have any issues (so hopefully I will not have to be back.)

Dr. Carson did not have a particularly warm personality but I feel she was an adequate doctor. I am giving a bad review because the anesthesiologist that she uses does not take insurance and is considered out of network, causing patients to get a surprise bill. Patients are not really in a position to tell the Dr. what anesthesiologist to use. I will not being going back to her practice for this reason and will not refer her. It is sneaky billing and one of the problems with our healthcare system. Plenty of other Gastroenterology practices use anesthesiologists within network. An expensive lesson.

I’m 73 yrs old and have been to numerous gastroenterologists over the years in the Atlanta area...she is the dead level BEST! I’ve never had anyone spend so much time and her medical expertise is excellent!! An answer to prayer!!

I created an account on here just to write a review regarding my visit with Dr. Carson. I read reviews for everything and I am a "yelper" myself. The doc was knowledgeable and thorough. Two qualities that are important to me. Some might say she's direct, actually she would say that she's direct lol but i'd rather have that than the fluffy stuff. I was a patient of Dr. Carson’s in 2012 and moved to a different state. When we came back to GA I returned to her care because I feel like she does a really good job explaining the different diagnosis and treatment options. I’ve always found her very thorough and also considerate about how treatment differences can impact my QOL.

Dr Carson, her nurses and staff were all great! Dr Carson answered my questions and my colonoscopy could not have gone more smoothly.

Nobody wants to talk about GI issues, but Dr. Carson is so easy to talk to about just that. She relates on a personal level and stresses that you are not alone. I highly recommend her.

Dr Carson has been my Dr. For the past 12 years. She is responsive when I’ve needed her and always kind when I’m in the office. I appreciate her direct pt. care style which gives me pertinent information so that I am able to make informed decision regarding my health care needs.

I have been seeing Dr. Carson for the past few years. I have changed Gastroenterologists 4 times over the last 12 years and Dr. Carson is the best i have been associated with. Her knowledge regarding ulcerative colitis is amazing. Dr. Carson's main goal is to get you in recovery. She is caring and her biggest asset is that I trust her with my health.

She was very patient and thorough in explaining the procedure and results. This was very comforting given the fact that this is not a procedure anyone looks forward to! I recommend Dr. Carson anytime someone is looking for a Gastroenterologist.

Kelly is an amazing doctor. She has been my doctor for over 10 years and even helped me through a cancer diagnosis. She is kind, knowing, very up to date on the latest in medications and testing, and always available to explain all of it to me. I have referred so many friends to her, she calls them Debra's Clan!
