Not great, but still better than most
I have mixed feelings Dr. T. I’ve been going to her for many years. I’ve had probably 40 visits, and she has been exactly on time at least 90% of the time (esp. in person; on telemed she can be up to 10 mins. late). If you’re late, you must reschedule, which can be infuriating, but it’s nice to know that a doctor can actually be on time. It’s much better than having to wait for an hour or two. She changed my original meds, then added another, and another. She prescribed anti-narc when I couldn’t stay awake, a musc relax to get more restful sleep. I had to wait almost 6 months just to get in to see her, but her schedule as long as I saw her every 90 days. The downsides: she has zero warmth, but that’s OK. She types the entire session. I need someone who’s smart. She has never once recommended counseling, sleep quality testing (which was necessary), nutrition, etc. My biggest issue is when I tell her I’m not feeling great she says I shouldn’t expect drugs to make my life perfect.

She likes to keep you waiting in the waiting room, but if you happen to be late (even just a few minutes) she will make you reschedule. Seems to have a lofty opinion of herself and treats her patients with a disdainful attitude. I would avoid seeing her. Plenty of other providers in the area.

Avoid. Argued with me when I directly stated symptoms. Was incredibly annoyed that I called during an emergency and told me to call her front desk to schedule an appointment in a month. Kept me on the same meds for years while I complained about symptoms. Didn't even respond when those symptoms changed. Absolutely zero concerns about side effects that were worse than the condition treated (in terms of life impact). I thought she was very logical & knew what she was talking about at first, too. Bad mistake. Surprised she can still practice medicine. Called to check appointment time day before appointment. Staff returned call 3 days later and told me I'd missed appt. Said it was my responsibility, so $70. Makes absolutely zero attempts to help neurodiverse patients or provide accommodations for patients with disabilities. *Especially* disabilities caused by mental health. Seriously far worse than *any* other healthcare provider I've ever had in that regard, and I'm 50.

I cannot say enough great things about this place. Time and time again, I have been astonished at how above and beyond they will go to help out when I don't think there is any other options, for example dealing with my difficult insurance company. I have been somewhat of a pain with my multiple contact attempts as a result of my anxiety and each and every time the manager Lauren has displayed patience with me that I don't think I would be able to if i were in her shoes. I see Dr. Tolin and could not recommend anyone better than her. She truly cares for her patients and that is hard to find when most doctors offices make you feel like just another face in the crowd. Wake psychiatry has my complete trust for my mental health. Without them, i would not be where i am today.

No would not recommend. Moved to her care from another practitioner in same practice who went on medical leave. Was prepared to do a telemeeting recently. I waited for her call at a specific time. No call. When I called her she moved my appointment to a month hence because I was confused and was supposed to call HER at the scheduled time. I was also told she would not be renewing a benzodiazepine and took me off precipitously. I was on this drug for a decade for restless leg syndrome. Small dose hadn’t changed in 10 years. Yes I had finished my prescription early and admittedly had been playing around with it due to impending back surgery , pain. Ended up in ER a trembling mess with elevated BP. Could have had a stroke or seizure. I feel I should have been tapered even though small dose. Am STILL twitching after 3 weeks off.

You're reading this review because you need help, and you took the first step- reaching out... congrats! Save yourself time, money, and aggravation; skip Dr Tolin and this practice and find yourself a compassionate doctor who listens and doesn't live by the notion that others are stupid. I do not recommend Wake Psychiatry, specifically, Dr. Kellie Tolin. I got transferred to her because my previous provider at Wake Psychiatry went on leave. I confirmed with Wake Psychiatry staff prior to the appointment that my new provider (Kellie) would get my records. I was assured that she would because my primary primary provider was not sending the records to any particular doctor but to the practice as a whole. At my first appointment, she was unprepared and extreamly rude. She never "received" my records, nor was any knowledge transfer done, so I had to do intake all over again . During our session, we were discussing medications, and she "ripped the words right out of my mouth" ...

She refused to see me as I was 10min. Late. I was crying when I came in and explained to staff I was feeling suicidal. When Tolin informed of this she would not agree to see me even at end of her appointments. I was a long term patient of hers. I left crying she never bothered to call to see if I was ok! I went to my pcp who called emergency services which is the law.

Dr. Tolin is an exceptional psychiatrist. She is down to earth and easy to talk to. She is wise beyond her years, knowledgeable, and highly intelligent. She has a true gift not every psychiatrist possesses. She has helped me so much and I am so thankful. I cannot say enough about her.

During the 12+ years I’ve known her, I’ve never used the emergency after hours service. Recently, I had to use it for a personal emergency. When I received a call back, she got angry b/c I used the service. My husband could hear her through my cell phone. Instead of offering compassion, she just got angry & thought I was calling to ask for a medication change. She told me to call back next week & get on her schedule. Never again will I let her talk to me like that. Her behavior is unacceptable!

This person is treating my family member and I am appalled at her lack of professionalism. How dare you treat and yell at my sister on the phone, I heard your tone and I as well as her therapist have suggested for her to move on from you. I would hope you seek some help and supervision on your issues.

Our experience with Dr. Tolin has been a good one! I find that she is caring and compassionate about her patients. I feel she is careful when prescribing medications and provides an ample amount of research when asked about efficacy. My favorite thing about visiting Dr. Tolin is that she is always prompt. I never have to wait in to see her as I do at most other doctors offices.

Dr. Tolin was really great at first. She then decided to start cancelling my appointments during terrible times. She had snotty remarks and stopped taking my concerns about my symptoms and side effects seriously. The staff is very nice, however I once arrived and was told not to go use the restroom but to wait until after my appointment. I had the last straw recently with another cancelled appointment, the other reviews are accurate.

Minimal amount of time spent with patients. It took me longer to get ready and drive their and then wait for her than the 10 min for the "session" . I get paid an hourly rate too Dr.Tollin if you want a 10 min check up please let me call it in. I literally paid with insurance about $3 per minute, yeah the reviews are pretty accurate.

Dr Tolin is very personable, kind, caring doctor. If it was not for her I wouldn't be here to leave this review. I started seeing Dr Tolin just over a year ago and I am still a patient at her practice Wake Psychiatry. Zulema and Juanita are fantastic additions to the front office as they are kind, understanding and very professional. Dr Tolin's addition of Vaishalli PA-C has increased availability. I had a day where I popped in due to a suicide attempt, I was saved by these ladies.

Not at all. Bedside manner is horrible. She sees patients on 20 minute intervals. If you are late she cancels the appointment. Hard to reach in emergency. She now owns Greenbrook TMS. Patient care and contact with the doctor is minimal. We do not recommend her.
