Excellent physician by all means
I am a physician myself and I took my dad to him. He reached out and saved us by all he could. He has an excellent dedicated team as well. Thank you Dr. Sommers, Ms. Marcia, and the team. I thank you all with each breath I take. May God Blesses you more than before.

Dr Sommers squeezed me in for an appointment knowing how I was feeling with my health and after being in the hospital for 30 days . I appreciate him for that and after seeing him , he made me feel confident with him so I agreed with him to set me up for surgery. After dealing with this for 3 years and not getting any better, I appreciate him for taking the next step to help me to have a better quality of life.

He Changed My Life!
I was referred to Dr Sommers for a horrible chronic cough. Once the unusual cause was determined, Dr Sommers immediately scheduled me for surgery. He very calmly explained what was happening and how he would address it, and explained all of the risks and benefits of the surgery. He put me completely at ease from the very start. He and his surgical team were outstanding. In their surgery pre-brief, it was clear that they were prepared. They anticipated Dr Sommers’ questions and acknowledged his instructions. They put me completely at ease. After the surgery, Dr Sommers and his staff were wonderful, closely following my progress and addressing all of my concerns. Best of all is that the horrible chronic cough is gone! I can’t say enough positive things about Dr Sommers and his team. They’re wonderful and I would highly recommend Dr Sommers to anyone needing thoracic surgery.

Great doctor and staff
Telehealth
I recently had a fistula fix with Dr. Sommers and i can say from the start of the whole process and even now in post op recovery the experience has been amazing and i can’t thank him enough for what he did. I always felt like we were on the same page and always answered my questions. His staff is great about being in contact with me and calling to make sure things or going smoothly. I definitely recommend him to any and all who need the help.

One of the very best
I was referred to Dr. Sommers by my Oncologist for a suspicious area in one lung. He operated on my robotically and the whole process could not have been smoother. I was out of the hospital 3 days after the surgery with virtually no lingering effects. He is a consummate surgeon and I would recommend him without hesitation to anyone requiring lung surgery.

Dr Sommers is a fine doctor but, his office staff is the worst I've ever seen. On my first appointment we drove 4 hours round trip to be told it was changed to a televisit. They admitted they didn't call us. No problem. After the surgery Dr Sommers promised to call my wife who is an internist but he never called. Then I called the office and Everytime they would transfer or put me on hold the phone would disconnect. On my checkup in the office I asked if Dr Sommers would call my wife like he promised. They said he would. I said not to call my number call hers and supplied the number. 10 days went by no call. I checked my phone which I wasn't using and sure enough Dr Sommers had called my phone the next day. My final appt. was set for Fri. They changed it. I called and was hung up on 3 more times. They told me 100% that didn't happen. I said I'm done I don't want anything to do with that office after being told we were liars. I suggest you find another Dr to avoid the abuse.

Dr Sommers treated my mother Evalyn Robertson for lung cancer and extended her life by a good 11 years. At 80 yrs old three drs said she was inoperable. Upon hearing of Dr Sommers we decided to get one last opinion. He was able to successfully remove the cancer. Then at the age of 85 when it came back he was able to do it again. She lived to a full age of 91 thanks to the expertise of Dr Sommers and staff. His bedside manner is above the best. Such an amazing surgeon and man. For over 5 yrs my mother and I would meet with Dr Sommers ever 3-5 “months” for checkups. That frequency allowed us to get to know Dr Sommers first hand. From experience I can say he is an answer to prayers!

I am forever grateful to Dr. Sommers, Dr. Vinson, and Dr. Marcet for saving my father's life. Last year my father suffered life threatening complications from elective surgery at another hospital which put him in a coma. The hospital and doctors that were treating him at the time had completely given up and told us there was nothing they could do to save him. It was a hopeless situation but we did not give up, we were able to get him transferred to Tampa General and into the care of Dr. Sommers and his amazing team. These people not only saved his life but made him smile, after months of not being to able to speak or eat. Dr. Sommer's nursing team and the entire ICU nursing team could not have been more kind, these people not only took amazing care of my father, but also myself and my entire family as we were dealing with this incredibly painful situation. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Dr Sommers operated on my mother in July to remove her right lung for copd and 2 tumors. The tumors were unknown if they were cancer. He basically was going in blindly. After the surgery he spent 60 seconds in the room to tell us it was inoperable. Then sent in his nurse to shove water and sandwiches down our throats and never spoke to us again until 2 days before she died. In the 3 weeks she was in the hospital he told my mom 4 times "YOU ARE GOING TO DIE" I wanted to punch him in the face.

I am M G H. Spanish basque patient of Dr. Keith E. Sommers operated on 22-December-2017. I was operated with only 2 days in hospital and total success by Dr. Keith Erick Sommers of a PARATHIROID ADENOMA in the mediastinum-chest and recomended to me by Dr. Lopez of Norman Parathyroid Center who could not extract it by being far from the neck. Both doctors Dr. Lopez and Dr. Keith E. Sommers of TGH were perfectly coordinated, and made it possible for me to return to Spain cured.MUCHAS GRACIAS

Dr. Sommers performed a lobectomy on my father. After the surgery was complete he spent 90 seconds explaining how the surgery went. Never saw him again. Sent in his NP, Jessica Bauman, who was rude & didn’t explain anything either. Took over a week to follow up with the results. At that time, they confirmed that the cancer was small cell. Later, the oncologist revealed that small cell lung cancer should NEVER be operated on and that surgery is harmful to treatment. Completely unethical.

I had part of my lung removed last year by Dr. Sommers. I saw him oh so briefly after my surgery and still groggy and disoriented. I had questions for him and though I would see him again. I didn't see him again during my hospital stay. I thought I would see him at my follow-up appointment. But again, no. I saw a N.P. I also have spinal issues. Sitting or standing for extended periods of time causes severe pain, which they were aware of. That is unacceptable. Good surgeon but poor scheduling.

While in the ICUl, his staff provided me with illogical and incorrect medical information as a basis for removing pain medication while I still had a chest tube and attempted again to discontinue my pain medication before removing the chest tube. The PA was rude and discounted my knowledge of my body and pain level. Dr. Sommers never followed up with me about my biopsy results. My post-op follow-up was rescheduled twice, and on the day of, I was made to wait over an hour before I just left.
