Dr. Kavya Kannan, MD

Ideally, what one hopes for in your doctor is sound medical knowledge coupled with empathy. Dr. Kavya Kannan has both in abundance. She listens carefully and shows a willingness and the patience to address any concerns you might have. After every visit with her, I left with the confidence that she was firmly in my corner, ready to do her best in my course of treatment.

Last December I was diagnosed with Cancer. It was in January at the Ridley Cancer Center in Santa Barbara, CA where I met Dr. Kavya Kannamma. Her manner was extremely professional and kind. She always came in with a smile and asked me how I was feeling, then gently informed about my tests and went over the next procedure on my chart. I was sorry to hear she was moving back to South Carolina. I want to wish her all the best as I greatly appreciate her treatment in assisting me in getting through a challenging and difficult time. Dr. Kavya is an amazing Oncologist! She is extremely tuned in to the needs of her patients. She has detailed notes and gives options. Dr. Kavya is extremely positive and kind. So sad she is relocating but wish her all the best. I was very fortunate to have her as my oncologist. She will be missed!

I saw Dr. Kannan the next day after learning the shocking new diagnosis of Leukemia. Needless to say, I was feeling lost and devastated. Dr. Kannon was amazing. She explained to me-in minute detail- the nature of the disease, the prognosis and what to expect. I immediately felt at ease, thanks to her caring and kind demeanor. She made me feel hopeful. It has been just a month since I first saw her, and I feel that I had known her forever!! Dr. Kannan is very competent and professional, but her warmth and caring personality were what made me feel cared for and will expediate my recovery. I would give her 5 out of 5 ratings. I highly recommend Dr. Kannan. I always felt quite confident with the information, communication and handling of my case. I sincerely appreciate the outstanding care I received from her during this very emotional and stressful time in my life. She was very thorough in guiding me through my choices and explaining all the options of treatment to me and my family. When my condition worsened to the point where I had to be hospitalized for 18 days, Dr. Kannan came to visit me regularly even though I was not under her direct care at that time. I came to Dr. Kannan after leaving the UCLA campus, where I experienced a less than professional aftercare environment. In the moment I met Dr. Kannan I knew I was in the hands of an exceptional, conscious human being. Her ability to maintain a professional posture and greet me with care and empathy, convinced me that I have found the right health professional to deal with my head and neck cancer. Dr. Kannan’s perception saved my life. I didn’t know how sick I was the first time I had an appointment with her. Right away she ordered a test and called me with the results (after hours) directing me to go right away to the ER. I was admitted and she visited me next day at my hospital bed and kept in contact with me throughout my surgery and hospital dismissal. She listens, she answers my questions -even when I asks the same questions again and again. I feel she sees a patient as an individual, not as a clinical case. Very professional and at the same time, caring -she really wants to help me get well.
