Dr. Katie Kaput, DO

The U of U is a teaching hospital, with that being said, no one asked if I was ok with seeing a first year fellow. I was NOT OK and I would have declined which is my right as a PT. This fellow came in, sat down at the computer, logged in and started asking questions. There was very little eye contact, there was no attempt to establish rapport with me. It was clear that the fellow was doing the 'leg work' and also was the scribe for the attending. After 40-45 minutes wait, the attending walked in, she answered my questions. I said is there anything else you want to ask me or tell me, the attending said 'no'. She was in the room less than 15 minutes. I set my timer PURPOSELY to see how much time she would actually spend with me. In less than 1 hour, I was driving out of the parking lot. I had to wait for an elevator, walk to my car and then start driving. I was driving at 58 minutes from the supposed start time of my appointment and she didn't walk into the room until 40-45 minutes after

Referred due to type 2 diabetes. Found super helpful and provided extensive information, spent time explaining information and is very friendly and personable.

She cancelled 2 appts that I made MONTHS AGO. Can we say thank you for not planning ahead? Next available appt is in August...REALLY?

Was not impressed at all. Looked over my lab work and said she could do nothing to help me because my labs were normal on that day even though I was clearly struggling and needed help. I had to pay $300 for her to not help me.

Dr. Kaput was demeaning and belittling, and completely rushed my appt. She was in the office for less than ten minutes - at least one of which she spent trying to figure out my name (it was on the chart in front of her). She cut me off and discounted every positive result I had, saying that they were false positives or "didn't matter". I have a family history of said illness, but she said it didn't matter. I attempted to explain my symptoms, but she cut me off again and told me that she wouldn't help me. She made me cry, in my car in the parking lot of the facility, because of how cold and uncaring she was. Dr. Kaput, I hope you read this. I don't ever wish a chronic illness on you, but I hope you have the opportunity to experience how it feels first hand, and I hope someone responds with the serious lack of empathy you expressed to me. As a doctor, you're supposed to help. Instead, you were self-righteous and, honestly, unfair. Do better. Be better.

She was condescending over our video call, as well as catty and passive-aggressive in our interactions. She chose the route of passive "wait and see" treatment, as opposed to prescribing me medication. I received a second opinion, who disagreed with her and prescribed me the treatment I needed. I do not recommend her AT ALL.

Dr. Kaput reminded me of the stereotypical ER doctor. Looks over your chart, spends 2 minutes with you and then treats you as a statistic. I felt spoke down to and did not appreciate it. I wouldn't recommend to anyone who wants real treatment.
