Dr. Katherine Black, MD

I’m in active labor with contractions every 2-3 mins. The 1st year anesthesia resident shows up to my room and requests consent to perform my epidural. I politely declined and requested the attending (Dr.Black) perform the procedure. He protested that we’re at a teaching hospital and he would talk to his attending about it. She over an hour to arrive to my bedside despite several pages made to her by the OB team. Upon arrival she had no urgency. She still lingered around my room for an additional hour. Keep in mind, I’m in active labor at the moment. She walked into my room, with no apology for the delay. She introduced herself and said the resident was going to do the procedure with her despite my apprehension. When they were done she told me the resident did a good job and left my room. I never felt so vulnerable and insignificant. As a patient we are entitled to decide who is involved in our care. I’ve had 2 more children since then, and I’ve never experienced care as bad as hers.
