OK care, terrible billing and patient management
I went to Dr. Sassi for a routine colonoscopy and, if that wasn't fun enough, I was also presented with a large bill a few weeks later. Apparently, the billing department does not know how to code treatments and is unable or unwilling to fix their errors. I would not recommend this doctor. There are much nicer options to have your colon probed.

Irresponsible, Imperious
Dr. Sassi cancelled 3 appointments last minute (within an hour of the appointment!) for various reasons, within a couple months. He also had a very imperious attitude. I won't be seeing him again.

I was supposed to have a colonoscopy with Dr Sassi but never made it because the provided bowel prep instructions made me violently ill and sent me to the ER. Given my recent medical history I am more prone to/ trying to learn if I have IBS; I’m not sure why this wasn’t considered in my prep instructions. I’m disappointed Dr. Sassi was not more carefully considering this when I booked an apppointment in advance of the procedure to talk it out. My ER bill was double the cost of the colonoscopy.

I recently had a colonoscopy with Dr. Sassi. Couldn’t be happier! He took his time to answer all questions and was very responsive, both in email and by phone. He is kind, professional, and gives excellent advice! The front office went out of their way to be helpful, and his nursing staff at the hospital were the best! The prep was much better than reviews I had read. The nurses said they had made recent improvements on taste. I had full sedation, and woke feeling alert and comfortable.

I saw Dr. Kareem Sassi last week; waited 3 weeks for an appointment and after about 10 with him, I was told to take more fiber - I honestly haven't seen such a rushed, unconcerned doctor - I was surprised that he didn't order any follow-up, a colonoscopy, or any tests. He just advised more insoluble fiber and avoid NSAID's if I have any pain as they can contribute to abdominal flare-up. The whole thing seemed so nonchalant and rushed. I have an appointment with a non-UCLA gastro for a second op.

Dr. Sassi was great: warm, responsive and knowledgeable. We spoke for 30 minutes and agreed i did not have acid reflux nor should i pursue other tests to confirm that. All good! HOWEVER, then i got the bill. $780.00. My insurance paid half. Had they informed me correctly when i asked beforehand i never would have gone to see him. That is an inane price for a consultation. Much as I'd prefer to stay with him, I'll look for another excellent gastroenterologist who charges less in the future
